Scope1.1 This specification covers the pigment commerciallyknown

3、as yellow iron oxide, hydrated.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The values given in parentheses are for informationonly.2. Composition and Properties3.1 The pigment shall be a manufactured ye

5、llow iron oxideobtained by chemical reaction. It shall be a soft, finelypowdered pigment, free of admixtures of other substances andshall conform to the following requirements:Total hydrated oxide of iron, min, % 93Total oxide of iron,Amin, % 83Loss on ignition,Amax, % 13Moisture and other volatile

6、matter, max, % 1.0Water soluble matter, max, % 0.50Coarse particles (total residue retained on a No. 325(45-m) sieve), max, %0.5Hydrogen ion concentration (pH value) 4.5 to 8.0_ATotal hydrated oxide of iron shall be the sum of iron oxide and loss on ignition.Loss on ignition shall be calculated on t

7、he dry material.3.2 Paste in OilThe paste in oil shall be made bythoroughly grinding the specified pigment with linseed oil(with or without a small amount of volatile thinner) togetherwith (where necessary) small amounts of wetting or dispersingagents to a semipaste or fluid type consistency. As rec

8、eived, itshall not be caked in the container and shall break up readily inoil to form a smooth paint of brushing consistency. It shall mixreadily in all proportions, without curdling, with linseed oil,turpentine, or volatile petroleum spirits, or any mixtures ofthese substances. The paste shall conf

9、orm to the followingrequirements:Pigment, min, % 55Nonvolatile vehicle, min, % of vehicle 80Moisture by distillation, max, % 2.0Coarse particles and skins (total residue retained on aNo. 325 (45-m) sieve), max, percent of the drypigment1.0Consistency by the Stormer viscometer:At shearing rate of 100

10、 revolutions/30 s, min, g 700AAt shearing rate of 100 revolutions/35 s, max, g 1200B_AEquivalent to a rating of 125 Krebs Units.BEquivalent to a rating of 145 Krebs Units.3.3 The mass color character of the tint and the tintingstrength formed by a mixture with a white pigment shall bewithin mutually

11、 agreed upon limits of a standard acceptable toboth the purchaser and the seller.4. Sampling4.1 Two samples shall be taken at random from differentpackages from each lot, batch, days pack, or other unit ofproduction in a shipment. When no markings distinguishingbetween units of production appear, sa

12、mples shall be takenfrom different packages in the ratio of two samples for each4540 kg or 10 000 lb, except that for shipments of less than10 000 lb, two samples shall be taken. At the option of thepurchaser, the samples may be tested separately or afterblending in equal quantities the samples from

13、 the sameproduction unit to form a composite sample.5. Test Methods5.1 GeneralTests shall be conducted in accordance withthe appropriate ASTM test methods.
