16、ion covers polyethylene fittings of thesocket type made as specified in 5.1 and 5.24.1.1 Fittings covered by this specification are normallymolded. In-line fittings such as couplings, unions, bushings,caps, nipples, etc., may be extruded or machined from extrudedstock. Special fittings such as trans
17、ition fittings and tappingteets shall be assembled and fabricated in accordance withprocedures agreed upon between the manufacturer and thepurchaser.4.1.2 Fittings covered by this specification are intended tobe joined by heat fusion to PE pipe.4.1.3 Fittings intended for use in the distribution of
18、naturalgas or petroleum fuels shall also meet the requirements ofSpecification D2513.5. Materials5.1 Polyethylene CompoundPolyethylene material com-pounds suitable for use in the manufacture of fittings under thisspecification shall meet Specification D3350 and shall meet theSpecification D3350 clas
19、sification and property requirementsin Table 1, and shall have PPI TR-4 HDB and HDS listings at73F (23C) and HDB listings 140F (60C) in accordancewith Table 1.5.2 Color and Ultraviolet (UV) StabilizationPolyethylenematerial compounds shall meet Specification D3350 code C orE. Code C material compoun
20、ds shall have 2 to 3 percent carbonblack. Code E material compounds shall be colored with UVstabilizer.5.3 Rework MaterialClean polyethylene compound fromthe manufacturers own production that met 5.1 and 5.2 asvirgin material is suitable for remolding into fittings, eitheralone or blended with new c
21、ompound of the same cellclassification or material designation. Fittings containing therework material shall meet the material and product require-ments of this specification.6. Requirements6.1 Dimensions and Tolerances:6.1.1 Fittings, sockets, dimensions, and tolerances shall beas shown in Table 2,
22、 Table 3, and Table 4 when measured inaccordance with 8.4. For reducing fittings, socket and insidediameter minimums for the appropriate size shall apply.6.1.2 The maximum angular variation of any opening shallnot be more than 2 off the true centerline axis.6.1.3 The minimum wall thickness of fittin
23、gs shall be 125 %of the minimum wall thickness of the pipe with which they aredesigned to be joined. For reducing fittings, the smallest sizewall thickness shall be 125 % of the smallest pipe wall.6.2 System Pressure Test Requirements:6.2.1 Short-Term Rupture StrengthThe minimum short-term rupture s
24、trength of the fitting and fused pipe shall not beless than the minimum short-term rupture strength of the pipeor tubing in the system when tested in accordance with 8.5.2.The test pressures shall be as shown in Table 5. Test specimensshall be prepared for testing as described in 8.5.1.6.2.2 Sustain
25、ed PressureThe fitting(s) and fused pipe ortubing shall not fail (as defined in the Descriptions of TermsSection of Test Method D1598) at the test pressures given inTable 6 when tested in accordance with 8.4. To ensureuniformity in preparation of assemblies for sustained pressureevaluation, all test
26、 joints shall be made in accordance with heatfusion practices found in D2657.7. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 The manufacture of these fittings shall be in accordancewith good commercial practice so as to produce fittingsmeeting the requirements of this specification. Fittings shall behomog
27、eneous throughout and free of cracks, holes, foreigninclusions, or injurious defects. The fittings shall be as uniformas commercially practicable in color, opacity, density, andother physical properties.8. Test Methods8.1 ConditioningCondition the test specimens at 73.4 63.6F (23 6 2C) for 40 h mini

34、54 mm).8.5 Pressure Test:8.5.1 Prepare test assemblies in such a manner that each,whether individual fittings or groups of fittings, is a systemincorporating at least one length of pipe or tubing and one ormore fittings in addition to end closures. Fuse all fittingsoutlets with the appropriate size
35、pipe or tubing. One piece ofpipe in the system shall have a minimum length equal to fivepipe diameters.8.5.2 Short-Term Rupture TestThe test equipment,procedures, and failure definition shall be as specified in TestMethod D1599. Increase the hydrostatic pressure at a uniformrate such that the specim
36、en fails between 60 and 70 s from thestart of the test.
