Significance and Use4.1 This practice provides information on the recommendeduses and application temperatures for the various grades ofroad tar used in the construction and maintenance of pave-ments.5. Recommended Uses5.1 The recommendations shown in Table 1 are for use onlyas a guide when usi
10、ng tar for pavement construction andmaintenance. Several grades of tar may be listed in the table forthe same general construction procedure. Selection of a par-ticular grade will depend upon local practice, equipmentavailability, traffic, and environmental conditions applicable tothe specific proje
11、ct being considered.6. Recommended Application Temperatures6.1 The temperature ranges listed in Table 1 for the severalroad tar grades show the minimum and maximum temperaturesthat will provide proper viscosity for application. In general,the lower application temperatures may be used when highertem
12、peratures of aggregate and pavement surfaces prevail.Higher application temperatures are employed when the tar isto be mixed, or where dust or moisture films are encountered.It is good practice to apply tar at the lowest temperature thatwill provide the required spray pattern, viscosity, adhesion, a
