Scope*1.1 This specification covers requirements, test methods,and methods of marking for chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride)plastic hot- and cold-water distribution system componentsmade in one standard dimension ratio and intended for waterservice up to and including 180F (82

4、C). These componentscomprise pipe and tubing, socket-type fittings, street fittings,plastic-to-metal transition fittings, solvent cements, and adhe-sives. Requirements and methods of test are included formaterials, workmanship, dimensions and tolerances, hydro-static sustained pressure strength, and

5、 thermocycling resis-tance. The components covered by this specification areintended for use in residential and commercial, hot and cold,potable water distribution systems.1.2 The products covered by this specification are intendedfor use with the distribution of pressurized liquids only, whichare c

6、hemically compatible with the piping materials. Due toinherent hazards associated with testing components and sys-tems with compressed air or other compressed gases somemanufacturers do not allow pneumatic testing of their products.Consult with specific product/component manufacturers fortheir speci

7、fic testing procedures prior to pneumatic testing.NOTE 1Pressurized (compressed) air or other compressed gasescontain large amounts of stored energy which present serious safteyhazards should a system fail for any reason.1.3 The text of this specification references notes, footnotes,and appendixes w

8、hich provide explanatory material. Thesenotes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shallnot be considered as requirements of the specification.1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may n

9、ot be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.NOTE 2Suggested hydrostatic design stresses and hydrostatic pres-sure ratings for pipe, tubing, and fittings are listed in Appe

The abbreviation for chlorinated poly(vinyl chlo-ride) isCPVC. Plastic tubing denotes a particular diameter schedule ofplastic

24、pipe in which the outside diameter of the tubing is equalto the nominal size plus18 in. SDR fittings shall by definition be equivalent in minimumsocket wall

27、 thickness to the minimum wall thickness of thecorresponding SDR and size of pipe or tubing, and theminimum body wall thickness shall be 125 % of that value.3.1.4 standard material designation codethe chlorinatedpoly(vinyl chloride) material designation code shall consist ofthe abbreviation CPVC fol

28、lowed by two digits indicating theASTM type and grade in Arabic numerals. Where necessary, athird and fourth digit shall be added to indicate the hydrostaticdesign stress for water at 73F 23C in units of 100 psi 0.69MPa.4. Classification4.1 Pipe, Tubing, and FittingsThis specification classifiesCPVC

29、 4120 pipe, tubing, and fittings by a single standarddimension ratio which shall be SDR 11, by a maximumcontinuous use temperature which shall be 180F 82C andby nominal pipe or tubing diameters from14 in. 9.5 mmthrough 2 in. 50 mm.4.2 Transition FittingsThis specification classifies transi-tion fitt

30、ings intended for use up to and including 180F 82Cas CPVC-180F on the basis of resistance to failure bythermocycling.4.3 Solvent Cements and Adhesives This specificationclassifies solvent cements and adhesives meeting the require-ments contained herein as CPVC Solvent Cement or CPVCAdhesive.NOTE 3Th

31、is specification does not include requirements for pipefittings intended to be used to vent combustion gases.5. Materials5.1 Basic Materials DescriptionChlorinated poly(vinylchloride) plastics used to make pipe, tubing, and fittingsmeeting the requirements of this specification are categorizedby two

32、 criteria; namely, basic short-term properties, andlong-term hydrostatic strength. Sections 5.1.1 and 5.1.2 respec-tively define these categories.5.1.1 Basic Short-Term PropertiesThis specification cov-ers CPVC 41 pipe, tubing, and fittings made from plasticmaterials meeting the mechanical strength,

This is also used inmarking pipe, tubing, or fittings.5.1.2 Long-Term Hydrostatic Strength This specificationcovers CPVC 41 pipe, tubing, and fittings which are furtherdefined by hydrostatic design stress as CPVC 4120. Pipe andtubing are so defined on the basis of long-term hy

36、drostaticstrength tests and are made from compounds having anestablished 180F 82C hydrostatic design stress of 500 psi3.45 MPa or greater in accordance with Test Method D 2837.Fittings are so defined by hydrostatic sustained pressure testson fitting assemblies, required by this specification (see 6.

37、2),based on the hydrostatic strength of the corresponding pipe ortubing.NOTE 5No hydrostatic design stress, as such, exists for fittings untilsuch time as long-term hydrostatic strength test methods for fittings aredeveloped.5.2 The PEX fitting ends of CPVC to PEX transition fittingsshall meet the m

38、aterial and dimensional requirements of thecorresponding PEX fitting standard.5.3 The PERT fitting ends of CPVC to PERT transitionfittings shall meet the material and dimensional requirementsof the corresponding PERT fitting standard.5.4 Rework MaterialClean rework plastic material gener-ated from t

39、he manufacturers own plastic tube or fittingproduction may be used by the same manufacturer provided thepipe, tubing, or fittings meet all the requirements of thisspecification.6. Requirements for Pipe, Tubing and Fittings6.1 Dimensions and Tolerances:6.1.1 General:6.1.1.1 Wall MinimumsTable 1 and T

40、able 2 show wallthickness minimums. Calculated SDR 11 fitting wall thick-nesses that fall below 0.102 in. 2.59 mm for the fitting socketbottom, or 0.128 in. 3.25 mm for the fitting body, shall bearbitrarily increased to these values.6.1.1.2 Interference FitThe diameters and tolerances inTable 1 and

41、Table 2 provide for socket-type joints having aninterference fit based on the major diameter of pipe and tubinghaving a degree of out-of-roundness.6.1.1.3 Out-of-RoundnessThe maximum out-of-roundness requirements shown in Table 1 and Table 2 for pipe,tubing, and fittings apply to the average measure

42、d diameter.NOTE 6Example: In the 1-in. 25 mm tubing size, if the measuredaverage tubing diameter was 1.123 in. 28.52 mm, then the extrememeasured diameters due to ovality could be 1.129 in. 28.68 mmmaximum and 1.117 in. 28.37 mm minimum.6.1.2 Pipe and Tubing:6.1.2.1 Outside Diameter and Wall Thickne

43、ssThe outsidediameters and wall thicknesses for pipe and tubing shall meetthe requirements for dimension and tolerance given in Table 1when measured in accordance with Test Method D 2122.6.1.2.2 Wall Thickness RangeThe wall thickness range forpipe and tubing shall be within 12 % when measured inacco

44、rdance with Test Method D 2122.6.1.2.3 FlatteningThere shall be no evidence of split-ting, cracking, or breaking when the pipe is tested in accor-dance with 9.2.6.1.2.4 LengthPipe and tubing supplied in straight lengthsshall have a tolerance on any specified length of +12 ,0in.+12.5, 0 mm.6.1.3 Sock

45、et-Type Fittings:6.1.3.1 DimensionsFitting sockets, inside diameters (wa-terways), wall thicknesses, laying lengths, and reducing bush-ing minimums shall meet the requirements for dimension andtolerance given in Table 2, Table 3, and Table 4 when measuredin accordance with Test Method D 2122. The sp

46、igot ends ofstreet fittings shall meet the outside diameter and minimumwall requirements of Table 1.6.1.3.2 AlignmentThe maximum angular variation of anysocket opening shall not exceed12 off the true centerlineaxis.6.1.4 Plastic-to-Metal Transition Fittings:6.1.4.1 Basic DimensionsPlastic parts of p

47、lastic-to-metaltransition fittings shall meet the dimensional requirements ofTable 1 and Table 2, where applicable, with the followingexceptions.
