1、Designation: D2978 151Standard Test Methods forVolume of Processed Peat Materials1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D2978; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in par

2、entheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1NOTEEditorially updated units of measurement statement in April 2018.1. Scope*1.1 These test methods cover the measurement of thevolume of loose and baled proc

3、essed peat expressed as cubicfeet and is used as a quality control measurement to determineif the package contains the labeled amount of material. Theresults of these test methods are highly dependent on theexperience of the personnel running the procedure.1.2 There are two test methods, Method A fo

4、r Loose Peatand Method B for Baled Peat. Method A is used when thematerial is uncompacted and Method B is used when thematerial is compacted.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses after inch-poundunits are provided for information onl

Except, that the sieve designations are typicallyidentified using the “alternative” system in accordance withPractice E11, such as 3-in. and No. 200, instead of the“standard” of 75-mm and 75-m, respectively.1.4 All observed and calculated values shall conform to the

6、guidelines for significant digits and rounding established inPractice D6026.1.4.1 The procedures used to specify how data are collected/recorded or calculated in this standard are regarded as theindustry standard. In addition, they are representative of thesignificant digits that generally should be

7、 retained. The proce-dures used do not consider material variation, purpose forobtaining the data, special purpose studies, or any consider-ations for the users objectives; and it is common practice toincrease or reduce significant digits of reported data to becommensurate with these considerations.

8、 It is beyond the scopeof this standard to consider significant digits used in analysismethods for engineering design.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-pria

Significance and Use5.1 These test methods are used to quantify the volume ofpeats under consideration in commercial transactions to deter-mine if the package contains the labeled quantity. As such, material comes into the test area in an “as sold” condition.NOTE 1The quali

Agencies that meet thecriteria of Practice D3740 are generally considered capable of competentand objective testing/sampling/inspection/et

19、c. Users of this standard arecautioned that compliance with Practice D3740 does not in itself ensurereliable results. Reliable results depend on many factors; Practice D3740provides a means of evaluating some of those factors.6. Apparatus6.1 Sieve,12-in. (12.5-mm), conforming to SpecificationE11.6.2

Also, it is not feasible or toocostly to produce multiple specimens that have uniform physi-cal properties. Any variation observed in the data is just aslikely to be du
