Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defens
3、e.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers the types of joints required forplastic pipe pressure systems with a wall thickness equal to orgreater than that of SDR 64 and intended for use in supply anddistribution lines for water, using flexible elastomeric seals. This specification covers the test requi
4、rements, test method, and materials. The test methods described are not intended tobe routine quality control tests, but are to evaluate theperformance characteristics of the joint.1.2 The text of this specification references notes, footnotes, and appendixes which provide explanatory material. Thesen
5、otes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shallnot be considered as requirements of the specification.1.3 The following safety hazards caveat pertains to the testmethod portion, Section 6, of this specification: This standarddoes not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if
6、 any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of thisstandard to establish appropriate safety and health practicesand determine the applicability of regulatory limitations priorto use.2. Terminology3.1 DefinitionsThis specification covers two types ofmechanical joints based on effecting water tightness throughcompression of an elastomeric seal or ring:3.1.1 mechanical jointa joint in which a positive seal isachieved when a gasket is compressed by means
9、 of a mechani-cal device.3.1.2 push-on-jointa joint in which a continuous elasto-meric ring gasket is compressed into an annular space formedby the pipe or fitting socket and the spigot end of the pipe, andforms a positive seal after being assembled. Details of the jointdesign and assembly shall be
10、in accordance with the manufac-turers instructions.4. Materials and Manufacture4.1 The materials used in elastomeric seals shall meet therequirements of Specification F 477.4.2 LubricantThe lubricant shall be nontoxic and shallhave no deteriorating effects on the gasket and pipe materials. It shall n

When used in apotable water system, the lubricant shall meet the requirementsofANSI/NSF Standard No. 61. The lubricant container shall belabeled with the manufacturers trademark or the pipe manu-facturers
