3、sification and identifi-cation of rigid plastic compounds intended for use in makingnonpressure piping products composed of (1) poly(vinyl chlo-ride) polymer, (2) chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride) polymer, or(3) vinyl chloride copolymers, and the necessary compoundingredients. Compounding ingredients
4、 consist of lubricants;stabilizers; non-poly(vinyl chloride) resin modifiers; colorantsor pigments, or both; fibrous or nonfibrous reinforcements; orfillers.1.2 The requirements in this specification are intended forthe quality control of compounds used to manufacture pipe orfittings intended for no
5、npressure use. They are not applicableto finished pipe and finished fittings. See the applicable ASTMstandards or requirements for finished products.1.3 In special cases, specific compounds for unusual pipingapplications that require consideration of other properties notcovered in this specification
6、, such as service temperature, sagresistance, special chemical resistance, weather resistance,bending forces, and electrical properties, shall be considered.1.4 Rigid PVC-type compounds for building applicationsother than piping are covered in Specification D4216.1.5 Rigid PVC compounds for general

The properties enumeratedin this table and the tests defined provide identification of thecompounds selected. They are not necessarily suitable fordirect application
18、 in design because of differences in shape orpart, size, loading, environmental conditions, method ofprocessing, etc.4.2 Classes are designated by the cell number for eachproperty in the order in which they are listed in Table 1.NOTE 2The manner in which selected materials are identified by thisclas

Materials and Manufacture5.1 Resin (Polymer) Requirements:5.1.1 Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) resin (polymer) meetingCell 1 in Designation Order 1 shall have a vinyl chloridehomopolymer content not less than 9
22、9.0 %.5.1.2 Chlorinated Poly(vinyl chloride) (CPVC) resin (poly-mer) meeting Cell 2 in Designation Order 1 shall have achlorine content not less than 63 %.5.1.3 Vinyl chloride copolymer resin (polymer) meetingCell 3 in Designation Order 1 shall contain not less than 80 %vinyl chloride content.5.2 Co
23、mpounds supplied under this specification shall be inthe form of cubes, granules, pellets, free-flowing powderblends, or compacted powder blends.5.3 Compounds shall be of uniform composition and size.Color and transparency or opacity shall be within applicablecommercial tolerances.5.4 Compounds shal
24、l be free of foreign matter to a level thatwill not affect processability, serviceability, or finished productappearance adversely.6. Conformance Testing8.1 The minimum properties identified by the class desig-nations in Table 1 shall be
30、 verified by the test methodsdescribed in Section 10.8.2 Conformance with this specification shall be determinedby the results of one test or the average of multiple tests.8.3 If the average test value produces values below theminimum property values of the class designation in Table 1,the material
31、does not conform to this specification.9. Specimen Preparation9.1 Compliance with the cell requirements from Table 1shall be determined with compression-molded, extruded, orinjection-molded specimens for Izod impact resistance, tensilestrength, tensile modulus of elasticity, and deflection tempera-t
32、ure under load. Specimens cut from laminates of compression-molded or extruded sections shall not be used unless it can beshown by test that complete fusion is obtained. It is understoodthat a material shall not be tested without also specifying themethod of specimen preparation. When comparative te
33、sts ofmaterials are desired, the greatest care shall be taken to ensurethat all specimens are prepared in exactly the same way used tocertify the cell class of the compound. Procedures used inpreparing the test specimens shall be as recommended by theseller for each specific compound.NOTE 4It is pos
34、sible that a specimen taken from a finished productwill not produce the same results as a specimen prepared by the methodused for purposes of cell class testing and certification.10. Test Methods10.1 ConditioningCondition the test specimen for deflec-tion temperature (Test Method D648) in accordance
35、 withProcedure B of Practice D618, except that the minimumconditioning time shall be 24 h. Condition all other testspecimens in accordance with Procedure A of Practice D618.The minimum conditioning time shall be 24 h.10.2 Test ConditionsUnless otherwise specified in thetesting methods or in this spe
36、cification, conduct tests in thestandard laboratory atmosphere of 23 6 2C (73 6 4F) and 506 10 % relative humidity. In cases of disagreement, thetolerances shall be 61C (62F) and 65 % relative humidity.10.3 Tensile Strength and Modulus of ElasticityTestMethod D638, using Type I specimens of 3.2 6 0.

38、imens under 1.82-MPa (264-psi)fiber stress. Materials that require high-temperature annealingprior to testing shall be annealed at 50C (122F) for 24 h or atthe manufacturers recommendation. Specimens shall becooled in accordance with Procedure B of Practice D618. Thetest report for all high-temperat
39、ure annealed specimens shallinclude the time and temperature of annealing used.10.5 Impact Resistance (Izod)Method A of Test MethodsD256 using 3.2-mm (0.125-in.) thick specimens. It is accept-able for the specimens to be compression-molded, extruded, orinjection-molded with the provision that compre
40、ssion-moldedor extruded specimens built-up as laminates, in which com-plete fusion is obtained. Complete fusion means that there shallbe no evidence of fraying or delamination at the break.11. Packaging and Marking11.1 PackagingThe compound shall be packaged in stan-dard commercial containers, so co
41、nstructed as to ensureacceptance by common or other carriers for safe transportation.11.2 All packing, packaging, and marking provisions ofPractice D3892 shall apply to this specification.12.
