Steel Panels5.1 Panel size shall be a minimum of 2-in. wide by 4-in.long by18-in. thick (50.8-mm wide by 101.6-mm long by3.175-mm thick) unless otherwise stated in the referenced testmethod. Edges and corners may be rounded. A suitably located

(6.35 mm) diameter hole may be provided in the testpanel as appropriate when required by the test method.5.1.1 For Test Method D4541 the minimum size shall be3-in. wide by 5-in. long by14-in. thick (76.2-mm wide by127-mm long by 6.35-mm thick).5.2 Unless otherwise required, all panels shall b

Concrete Blocks6.1 The minimum size shall be 2-in. wide by 2-in. deep by4-in. long (50.8-mm wide by 50.8-mm deep by 101.6-mmlong) unless otherwise stated in the referenced test method. Theedges may be chamfered up to14 in. (6.35 mm

The blocksurface is to be covered with plastic during the first 24 hours tosimulate water curing unless otherwise specified.6.4 The block shall be removed from the form after 24 hoursand wet cured in accordance with ACI 308 or
25、PracticeC192/C192M.6.5 If a curing compound is to be used, apply the compoundto the top surface immediately after finishing and to all othersurfaces of the block within 2 hours after its removal from theform.6.6 Allow the block to cure for 28 days in accordance withACI 308 before application of the
26、coating system unlessotherwise specified.6.7 A suitable hanger compatible with the testing apparatusshall be affixed at the mid-point of one end of the block asappropriate when required by the test method.6.8 After removing the block from the form, place or marka reference indicator on one end of ea
27、ch block, (for example,mark with a permanent marker or otherwise describe thereference being used). This indicator will allow referencingeach face by means of the following convention (refer to Fig.1):(a) Face “A” is the top (non-formed) face(b) Viewing the indicator on the block end, Faces “B, “C,”

Surface Preparation8.1 Steel:8.1.1 Surface preparation parameters shall be established.8.1.2 Users of this standard may identify project specificconditions, for example, weld configuration, corrosion pitting,interfaces/overlaps with pre-existing coatings, etc. These con-ditions sha
30、ll be specified as appropriate.8.2 Concrete:8.2.1 Surface preparation parameters shall be established.8.2.2 Users of this standard may identify project specificconditions, for example, configuration, texture, bugholes,interfaces/overlaps with pre-existing coatings, etc. These con-ditions shall be re
31、quired as appropriate.8.2.3 After curing, remove loose material on Face A (non-formed, broom finished surface) by light wire brushing. Re-move loose material on a cast surface by blowing with air (80to 100 psi), unless otherwise specified, such as PracticesD4258, D4259,orD4260.8.2.4 Bugholes, honeyc
32、omb, and other surface defects maybe simulated by drilling holes to test coating systems forpatching surface defects.9. Application9.1 All test samples shall be coated with the coating/liningsystem(s) intended for evaluation, including any applicablefillers, internal reinforcement, curing compounds
33、and sealants.Different systems may be applied to different surfaces of thesame sample. The manufacturers latest published applicationinstructions shall be followed for mixing, thinning (asapplicable), and coating/lining application unless otherwiserequired. Any special procedures or conditions shall
34、 be notedin the documentation including thinning, mixing, use ofaccelerators, drying/curing times, force curing, aging betweencoats/systems, and intermediate surface preparations.9.2 The film thickness range shall be representative of thespecific work for which the testing is being conducted.9.3 The
35、 coating system shall be fully cured as specified bythe manufacturer or licensee. Historically, some coated testpanels were cured for 30 to 45 days at 70 to 80F (21 to 27C)or force cured at a maximum temperature of 150F (66C) fora maximum of 72 hours prior to commencement of testing (seeANSI N5.1219
36、74, paragraph 7.4.3).9.4 Test samples for painting test programs may includesimulated aging of the coating when applicable, intermediatesurface preparation and wide ranges of coating filmthicknesses, as required. The sample preparation procedureshall reflect actual field conditions as closely as pos
37、sible,including surface preparation, coating/lining application andcuring methods. Any additional special requirements shall berecorded.9.5 All surfaces of concrete blocks shall be coated whentesting in accordance with Test Method D3912. One end of theblocks shall be left uncoated for all other test
