2、vision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of lastreapproval. A superscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This test method describes the determination of theretention of air by fabrics coated on one or both sides withrubber.1.2 The

It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2. Refere

5、nced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:2D751 Test Methods for Coated Fabrics3. Summary of Test Method3.1 A membrane specimen of the material to be tested isplaced across a circular orifice in the measuring apparatus. Thebottom surface of the membrane is exposed to a source of airat a specified pressure. T

6、he top surface of the specimen iscovered with water or soap solution. Absence of the appear-ance of air bubbles on the top surface of the material during aspecified exposure period indicates the lack of pin-holes, leaks,or other similar defects. The coated fabric is then acceptable foruse in the int

7、ended application. This procedure is limited tomembranes or coated fabrics having a thickness of less than 3mm 0.125 in.4. Significance and Use4.1 This test method describes a procedure for evaluatingrubberized fabrics that are used to manufacture pneumaticarticles (that is, those that must retain a

Examples of sucharticles are emergency rafts, life preservers, marine recre-ational equipment, floats, pontons, and warning or detectiondevices, such as buoys or weather balloons.5. Apparatus5.1 The test apparatus shall consist of the

9、 assembly shownin Fig. 1.5.2 If preferred, wing nuts or toggle clamps may be substi-tuted to facilitate assembly and disassembly of the apparatus,as long as an air-tight seal is maintained during testing.6. Test Conditions6.1 Unless otherwise specified, the standard conditions fortesting coated fabr

Time Lapse Between Vulcanization and Testing7.1 For all purposes, the minimum time between vulcaniza-tion and testing shall be 16 h.7.2 For nonproduct tests, the

11、 maximum time between vul-canization and testing shall be four weeks, and for evaluationsintended to be comparable, the tests, as far as possible, shouldbe carried out after the same time interval.7.3 For product tests, whenever possible, the time betweenvulcanization and testing should not exceed t

12、hree months.8. Test Specimens8.1 Three circular test specimens, 330 6 3mm136 0.1in. in diameter, shall be accurately cut from the coated fabric.Holes conforming to the size and location of the bolts, asshown in Fig. 1, shall be punched around the perimeter of eachpiece.NOTE 1Specimen size is not cri

16、pecimen in the test apparatus by aligningthe punched holes with the projecting bolts and carefullypressing it into position in contact with the rubber gasket. If thefabric is coated on one side only, that side shall face down. Incases where the fabric is coated on both sides, the sidenormally expose

Pour 1 to 2 mm 0.040to 0.080 in. of water, or preferably soap solution, onto theexposed surface of the specimen to ensure complete coveragethroughout the d

18、uration of the test. Gradually increase the airpressure until a level of 70 kPa 10 psi has been reached. Airbubbles initially appearing on the specimen surface, producedby air pressure during closure of the space between the clothand coating, shall be removed. Maintain the test pressure for atleast

Failure is defined as the continuedappearance of surface air bubbles in any of the three specimenstested as taken from the sample of coated fabric beingevaluated.10. Report10.1 Report the following information:10.1.1 That
