7、his Standard:3.1.1 prefabricated bituminous geomembrane (PBGM),na material fabricated in a plant and consisting principally ofnonwoven polyester textile, impregnated by a blend of oxi-dized or polymer-modified bitumen incorporating filler.3.1.2 mineral stabilizer, na fine, water-insoluble inorganicm

Significance and Use4.1 Bituminous geomembranes, whether made from oxi-dized or polymer-modified bitumen, may contain a significantamount o
9、f mineral stabilizer. The amount of mineral stabilizerused in a bituminous geomembrane has an effect on severalphysical properties, including but not limited to coldtemperature, flexibility, and asphalt penetration (see GuideD6455 for a list of PBGM properites).5. Apparatus5.1 Porcelain Crucible, 30
10、-cm3capacity, or equivalent.5.2 Analytical Balance, capable of weighing to within60.001 g.5.3 Bunsen Burner.5.4 Muffle Furnace, capable of maintaining a temperature of600 6 25 C (1110 6 45 F).6. Hazards6.1 Calcination of PBGM involves the use of open flameand will produce black smoke. This procedure
11、 should becarried out under a fume hood, away from any flammablematerial.7. Sampling and Conditioning7.1 Sampling shall be conducted according to PracticeD4354.7.2 Remove any surface material from the sample at thelocation where the test specimen will be taken. Procedure8.1 Preheat the muffle furnace at 600 6 25 C (1110 645 F).8.2 Wei
17、gh the porcelain crucible to the nearest 0.001 g (C1).8.3 Place the sample obtained in 7.3 in the crucible andweigh to the nearest 0.001 g (C2).8.4 Under the fume hood, place the crucible over theBunsen burner flame until combustion is completed.8.5 Using an adequate holding device, place the crucib
18、le inthe muffle furnace set at 600 6 25 C (1110 6 45 F) for 60 65 min. Verify that the crucible is free of any black combustionresidue. If any is present, place the crucible in the furnace foran additional 30 6 5 min.8.6 Let the crucible and its contents cool in a dessicator for15 6 1 min.8.7 Weigh
19、the crucible to the nearest 0.001 g (C3).9. Calculation9.1 Calculate the mineral stabilizer content of the bitumen(SC) using the following equation:SC5C32 C1C22 C13100 (1)10.
