6、t3. Summary of Test Method3.1 A sample of emulsified asphalt is placed in an opensample tray with an appropriate liquid transfer device capableof handling 1- to 3-mL sample sizes. The sample is heated toa preset temperature as required by emulsion type but neverexceeding 163C to determine the percen
7、tage of asphaltresidue.4. Significance and Use4.1 This test is used to indicate the compositional charac-teristics of emulsified asphalt and is applicable to anionicemulsified asphalts as described in Table 1 of SpecificationD977 and cationic emulsified asphalt as described in Table 1 ofSpecificatio
8、n D2397 except solvent-containing emulsions. Theresidue obtained from this test method may also be subjected torheological characterizations.5. 11、th a switch-off criterionof 1 mg for 140 s or higher times for the highest accuracy. Forlower accuracy, set the instrument at 1 mg for 50 s or lowertimes for a faster run. The automatic switch-off criterion is usedto set the instruments sensitivity for higher accuracy (1 mg for140 s or longer times)

17、er times (lower accuracy).NOTE 1Although this test method is not for solvent-containingemulsions, some guidance is given for practitioners who desire to obtainresidue for emulsions of that type. Program the moisture analyzer to runin the temperature-gradient mode by setting the start temperature at
18、50Cand setting the ramp temperature at 10/min and the end temperature to100C if the emulsion also contains polymer. Set the end temperature to163C if the solvent-containing emulsion does not contain polymer. Inboth cases, set the switch-off criterion to 1 mg for 140 s (see AppendixAppendix X1) or lo
