、Designation: F1206 94 (Reapproved 2011)1Standard Test Method forEvaluating Color Image Output from Color Printers andCopiers1This standard is issued under the fixed designation F1206; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision,

、 the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1NOTERevised the units presentation and added a units statement editorially in October 2011.1. Scope1.1 This test met

、hod covers the evaluation of color outputfrom printer/plotters and copiers. The output may be from anink jet, thermal transfer, electrostatic or electrophotographicdevice.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversi

Summary of Test Method3.1 A printer or copier is set up to standar

、d operatingparameters and operated under a controlled environment for alength of time sufficient for stable performance. A color testimage is created using a program for the printer or a standardcolor chart for copiers. A colorimeter is used to measure theprinter or copier output by determining colo

、r difference valueswhich correlate to visual color assessment.4. Significance and Use4.1 This test method is used to evaluate the color outputcapability of color printer/plotters or copiers. The color copy, print, or plot is measured such that the results can be correlatedto human color vision.4.2 Th

、is test method can be used to make machine-to-machine comparisons. It can be used to compare color printeror copier processes (ink jet, thermal transfer, etc.).4.3 This test method can be used to compare imagingsupplies such as toner, ink, thermal transfer ribbons, and paper.5. Interference5.1 Any c

、hanges in the color of the paper, surface proper-ties, or brighteners may affect the color measurement.5.2 The measured color may be affected by the location onthe paper due to uneven toning or positional variations in theimaging process.5.3 If the print samples to be tested are not completelyopaque

、, the color measurements will be affected by the backingmaterial.5.4 The preferred colorimeter geometry excludes gloss fromthe measurements. Any differences in sample gloss will not bemeasured by the colorimeter.6. Apparatus6.1 Colorimeter, capable of measuring human vision colorparameters. The colo
