22、Significance and Use4.1 The test results allow the comparison of the maximumpotential air power available for cleaning tasks when testedunder the conditions of this test method. The test results do notindicate the actual air power present during the cleaningprocess due to the effects of the various
23、tools in use andsurfaces being cleaned. During the nozzle on plenum chamberair performance testing, the brushroll is unloaded and thiscondition is not representative of the brushroll being in contactwith carpet or other surfaces being cleaned.5. (152.4 mm) in increments of 0.01 in.(0.254 mm), and one with increments of 0.1 in. (2.54 mm) foruse in making measurements above 6 in. (152.4 mm). A singleinstrument having a resoluti

35、se).7.2 Used Test Vacuum Cleaners:7.2.1 Recondition a used test vacuum cleaner; prior to theinitial test run as follows:7.2.1.1 Thoroughly remove excess dirt from the vacuumcleaner. Without using tools for disassembly, clean the entireouter surface, brushes, nozzle chamber, ductwork, inside of thech
36、amber surrounding the primary filter, and inside hose andwands.7.2.1.2 For vacuum cleaners using disposable filters as theprimary filters, use a new disposable primary filter from themanufacturer for each test. Install it as recommended by thevacuum cleaner manufacturer.7.2.1.3 For vacuum cleaners u
37、sing water as the primaryfilter, empty the receptacle and refill as recommended by themanufacturer.7.2.1.4 For vacuum cleaners using non-disposable dirtreceptacles, empty in accordance with the manufacturersinstructions and clean the receptacle until its weight is within0.07 oz (2 g) of its original
38、 weight and install it as recom-mended by the vacuum cleaner manufacturer.NOTE 3It is preferable to conduct this test method on new test vacuumcleaners prior to any otherASTM test methods to avoid contamination thatcould cause performance variations.7.3 Test Vacuum Cleaner SettingsIf various setting
39、s areprovided, set the motor speed setting or suction regulator usingthe manufacturers specifications as provided in the instructionmanual for normal operation. If a different setting is used,make a note of the deviation in the test report.8. Procedure8.1 Preparation for Test:8.1.1 Prepare the test
40、vacuum cleaner(s) in accordance withSection 7.8.1.2 Set the manometers to zero and check all instrumentsfor proper operation.8.1.3 Record the test station pressure and the dry-bulb andwet-bulb temperature readings within 6 ft of the test area. Readthe barometric pressure to the nearest 0.02 in. of m
41、ercury (0.51mm of mercury), and the dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperaturesto the nearest 0.2 F (or 0.1 C)8.1.3.1 The test area shall be free of major fluctuatingtemperature conditions due to air conditioners or air drafts thatwould be indicated by a thermometer at the immediate testarea.8.1.4 Connect a
42、manometer or equivalent instrument to theplenum chamber.8.1.5 Connect a wattmeter and a voltmeter in accordancewith Fig. 1.8.1.5.1 Wattmeter CorrectionIf needed, the indicationmay be corrected for voltmeter and wattmeter potential coilloss by opening the load circuit on the load side of thewattmeter
43、 with the line voltage at the operating value. Thewattmeter current connection may be at its most sensitiveposition. Subtract this loss value from the total load indicationto obtain the true load. See Fig. 2.8.
45、2.1.1 The end of the hose assembly should be insertedinside the hose connector adapter and be perpendicular to theplenum chamber.8.2.1.2 The end of the hose assembly shall not project intothe plenum chamber.8.2.2 The hose should be supported and kept straight andhorizontal. Maintain the vacuum clean
46、er in its normal operat-ing orientation. If the hose is not intended to enter the vacuumcleaner horizontally, gradually bend the hose with a singlebend from the intake port to the plenum chamber. Anyrestraining method should allow the hose coupling to seal at thecleaner. See Fig. 3.8.3 Test SetupCar
47、pet Cleaning Mode:8.3.1 Mount the cleaner plate as shown in Fig. 1e ofSpecification F431 to the plenum chamber.8.3.2 Make an adapter by any convenient method whichadapts the test vacuum cleaners nozzle opening to the openingin the cleaner plate.8.3.3 Maintain the largest cross-sectional area possibl
48、ethroughout the adapter. This will prevent impeding the airflowbetween the plenum chamber and the test vacuum cleanersnozzle.F558 1338.3.4 It is recommended that the hole for the adapter/plenum chamber interface be located as close, if not directlybelow, the dirt pickup duct for the test vacuum clea
49、nersnozzle.8.3.5 The interface between the adapter and the test vacuumcleaners nozzle is to be airtight. This may be achieved by anyconvenient means.8.3.6 If the vacuum cleaner incorporates edge cleaning slotsalong the side edge(s), or slots along the front and rear edge ofthe bottom plate, or both, these slots should be sealed by anyconvenient means such as clay, tape, and so forth.8.3.7 Do not eliminate leaks resulting from test vacuumcleaners construction, except at the adapter/nozzle interface asdescribed above.8.3.8
