Significance and Use4.1 This practice provides minimum recommendations forthe installation of thick poured lightweight cellular concretefloor underlayments suitable to receive resilient floor cover-ings. This practice establishes the proper preparation, installa-tion and qu

、ality control for thick poured lightweight cellularconcrete floor underlayments.4.2 Actual requirements for thick poured lightweight cellu-lar concrete underlayments are generally included as part ofproject plans or specifications and may vary from the recom-mendations set forth in this practice. Pr

、oject plans or specifi-cations, or both, shall supersede the recommendations set forthin this practice.5. Product Requirements5.1 For the purposes of this practice, thick poured light-weight cellular concrete underlayment shall be Portland ce-ment based compounds.5.2 Thick poured lightweight cellula

、r concrete underlay-ment shall be tested for pH, measured in accordance withPractice F 710. PH shall not exceed 11.5.3 Thick poured lightweight cellular concrete underlay-ments shall be tested for compressive strength. Specified psishall be a minimum of 2000 psi (13.8 MPa) for use over woodsubfloors

、 and 3000 psi (20.7 MPa) for use over concretesubfloors.5.4 Field density checks in accordance with SpecificationC 330 shall be made periodically and variations greater than61 pcf (16 kg/m3) between the recommended density and thedensity at the point of discharge will require a modification tothe mi

Subfloor shall supportdesign loads with maximum L/360 deflection.7.2 Wood and concrete subfloors shall be clean, dry, andstructurally sound so as to support both t

、he uniform design liveand dead loads in compliance with the local building code andthe resilient flooring manufacturers installation requirements.7.3 The surfaces of the structural subfloor assemblies shallbe clean, smooth, and free of construction wastes such asacoustic and wall texture, over spray

、, dirt, solvents, oil, grease, residual construction adhesives, adhesive removers, and otherforeign materials. Concrete subfloors shall be 28 days or olderand dry as tested by Test Method F 2170.7.4 Before, during and after installation of thick pouredlightweight cellular concrete underlayment, the G

、eneral Con-tractor shall be responsible for ensuring that the building shallbe ventilated and heated to a minimum of 50F (10C) untilsubfloor and ambient temperatures have stabilized. Tempera-ture during and after installation shall be maintained untilmaterial has completely cured. The General Contra

、ctor shallprovide heat and ventilation as necessary to dry the thickpoured lightweight cellular concrete underlayments. In winter, inside temperature shall not exceed 60F (15.6C).37.5 Installation of thick poured lightweight cellular concreteunderlayment shall not begin until the building is enclosed

、,including roof, windows, doors and other openings. GeneralContractor shall be responsible to provide continuous ventila-tion until the underlayment is dry. Ceilings shall be sprayed orstippled to avoid over spray.7.6 Before installation of thick poured lightweight cellularconcrete underlayment, the

、 condition of the structural subfloorassemblies and any required elevations shall be inspected andapproved by the general contractor or owner, or both. Allrequired flooring and nailing inspections shall be completed.7.7 Thick poured lightweight cellular concrete underlay-ment installation shall be b

、y an Applicator approved to do thistype of installation by the manufacturer, experienced in per-forming the work of this practice, who has been trained ininstallation of work similar to the project under construction.38. Preparation of Subfloor8.1 The structural panel subfloor assemblies shall be of

、wood structural panel construction, dry, level, securely nailed, and reasonably clean, without projections. Loose boards infloors with board subfloors or panels shall be renailed. Badlycupped or warped board subfloors shall be replaced beforeinstallation of underlayment. Concrete subfloors shall be 2

、8days or older and dry as tested by Test Method F 2170.8.2 All cracks and voids shall be covered or filled with aquick-setting taping or crack filler compound to preventleakage.9. Installation of Underlayment9.1 To minimize damage caused by other trades, the proce-dures in Section 11 shall be follow

、ed.9.2 Thick poured lightweight cellular underlayment thick-ness shall be a minimum of 112 in. (38 mm).39.3 A subfloor bond breaker shall be required. Asphalt-impregnated Kraft paper shall be stapled to the wood subfloor.9.4 Liquid foaming agent is diluted in water and mixed withair under pressure i

(102 by 102 mm) 14/14gauge welded wire mesh, extending each side of the corners atan angle of 45 degrees. As an alternativ

、e, plates shall beinserted through or a weakened plane joint made with acontinuous 112 in. (38 mm) by 1 in. (25 mm) light gauge steelangle divider.39.6 The maximum size of thick poured lightweight cellularconcrete underlayment between control joints is 20 by 20 ft (6by 6 m).39.7 The thick poured lig

Compressive strength tests shall be done in accor-dance with Specification C 330. Manufacturer of the thickpoured lightweight cellular concrete underlayment shall rec-ommend

、 how often sample cylinders shall be taken.11. Protection from Other Trades11.1 Because satisfactory performance of the finish flooringdepends in part on the condition of the surface of the thickpoured lightweight cellular concrete underlayment, care shallbe taken to avoid traffic on the thick poure

、d lightweight cellularconcrete underlayment after installation. Loads and foot trafficshall be kept off the underlayment for 24 h. The underlaymentshall not be loaded with drywall for one week. When loaded, the loads shall be distributed and not concentrated at centerspan. Damage to the underlayment

、surface or the resilientflooring installation can occur if water, oil, paint, solvent, dirt, and other debris are spilled or tracked onto the thick pouredlightweight cellular concrete underlayment.12. Preparation of Thick Poured Lightweight CellularConcrete Underlayment Surface12.1 Final preparation

、of the thick poured lightweight cel-lular concrete underlayment shall be accomplished just prior toapplication of the floor covering. The surface of the floor shallbe cleaned of all loose material by scraping, brushing, vacu-uming, or other methods, or combination thereof, recom-mended by resilient

、flooring manufacturer, immediately beforecommencing installation of resilient flooring.12.2 All cracked areas shall be repaired and replaced ifnecessary. Any loose areas shall be epoxy injected.12.3 Thick poured lightweight cellular concrete underlay-ments shall be tested for relative humidity in ac

Patchingand self-leveling compounds

、 for use on panel underlaymentsshall be moisture and alkali-resistant and suitable for commer-cial installations. Refer to patch and self-leveling compoundmanufacturers recommendations for mix and application in-structions. Also check resilient manufacturers recommenda-tions.12.5 Prior to installation of finished floor goods, thickpoured lightweight cellular concrete underlayment shall betested in accordance with Test Method D 4263 or with anelectronic moisture meter with a concrete scale recommendedby the manufacturer of the thick poured lightweight cellularconcrete un
