Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope*1.1 This specification establishes requirements for polyeth-ylene of raised temperatu

3、re (PE-RT) plastic hot- and cold-water tubing and distribution systems components made in onestandard dimension ratio and intended for 100 psig (6.9 bar)water service up to and including a maximum workingtemperature of 180F (82C). Components are comprised oftubing, fittings, valves and manifolds. Tu

4、bing may incorporatean optional polymeric inner, middle or outer layer. Testing ofSpecification F1807 and F2159 fittings and PE-RT tubing tothe requirements of this standard indicate that these fittings areappropriate for use with PE-RT piping systems. Requirementsand test methods are included for m

5、aterials, workmanship,dimensions and tolerances, burst pressure, sustained pressure,oxidative resistance, temperature cycling tests, bend strengthand environmental stress cracking. Also included are testsrelated to system malfunctions. The components covered bythis specification are intended for use

6、 in residential andcommercial, hot and cold, potable water distribution systems.1.2 The text of this specification references notes, footnotes,and appendixes which provide explanatory material. Thesenotes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shallnot be considered as requirements of

Terminology3.1 Terminology used in this standard is in accordanc

22、e withTerminologies F412, D1600, and D2749 unless otherwisespecified. The abbreviation for polyethylene of raised tempera-ture is PE-RT. Plastic tubing denotes a particular diameterschedule of plastic pipe in which outside diameter of the tubingis equal to the nominal size plus18 in. Plastic pipe ou

23、tsidediameter schedule conforms to ANSI B36.10.3.2 standard dimension ratio (SDR), na specific ratio ofthe average specified outside diameter to the minimum speci-fied wall thickness (D0/t) for outside diameter-controlled plas-tic pipe, the value of which is derived by adding one to thepertinent num

24、ber selected from the ANSI Preferred NumberSeries 10. F4123.2.1 DiscussionFor PE-RT-tubing, it is calculated bydividing the average outside diameter of the tubing in inches orin millimeters by the minimum wall thickness in inches ormillimeters. If the wall thickness calculated by this formula isless

25、 than 0.070 in. (1.78 mm) it shall be arbitrarily increased to0.070 in. except for sizes516 in. and smaller. The SDR valuesshall be rounded to the nearest 0.53.3 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.3.1 hydrostatic design stress (HDS), nthe estimatedmaximum tensile stress the material is

26、 capable of withstandingcontinuously with a high degree of certainty that failure of thetube will not occur. This stress is circumferential when internalhydrostatic water pressure is applied. For materials withHydrostatic Strength Classification 3 or 4 per SpecificationD3350, the HDS is equal to the

27、 hydrostatic design basis (HDB)times the design factor (DF) for water. Materials5.1 GeneralThe polyethylene used to make tubing shallbe virgin plastic or reworked plastic, or both, as specified in5.4, that meets the requirements of this standard and sh

36、all havea Plastic Pipe Institute (PPI) rating at 73F (23C) and 180F(82C). Fitting, manifold and valve materials shall meet theapplicable requirements as described in Specifications F1807or F2159. Fittings shall be made from materials that aregenerally regarded as corrosion resistant.5.2 Basic Tubing

37、 MaterialsPE-RT tubing meeting therequirements of this specification are primarily defined by twocriteria namely, basic short-term properties, 5.2.1, and long-term hydrostatic properties, 5.2.2.5.2.1 Basic Short-Term PropertiesThis specification cov-ers tubing materials meeting the following require

38、ments:5.2.1.1 ClassificationPolyethylene materials suitable foruse in the manufacture of tubing under this specification shallbe classified in accordance with Specification D3350 as shownin Table 1.5.2.2 Long-Term Hydrostatic StrengthThis specificationcovers PE-RT tubing which is further defined on

39、the basis oflong-term hydrostatic strength tests (Appendix X1). The ma-terial shall have a minimum pressure rating as per Table 2.5.3 Barrier LayersPE-RT tubing may incorporate an op-tional interior wall, mid wall or outer wall layer or a combi-nation of such layers of non-PE-RT material for the exp

40、resspurpose of providing gas barrier properties to the pipe. Thetubing shall meet the minimum wall thickness requirements ofthis standard without using the barrier layer thickness in thedeterminations. PE-RT tubing with a barrier layer within thewall of the tubing (neither exterior layer nor interio

41、r layer)shall demonstrate a hydrostatic design stress (HDS) ratingequivalent to that of PE-RT tubing without a barrier layer. Thisdetermination shall be made in accordance with policies no lessrestrictive than those of the PPI TR-3 and meet the require-ments of this standard.5.4 Rework MaterialClean

42、 rework material of the samecommercial designation, generated from the manufacturersown tubing production shall not be used unless the tubingproduced meet all the requirements of this specification. PE-RTtubing with a barrier layer shall not be used for reworkmaterial.5.5 Tubing Material Designation

43、The tubing meeting therequirements of this specification shall be designated PE-RT.5.6 CertificationTubing and fittings intended for use in thetransport of potable water shall be evaluated and certified assafe for this purpose by a testing agency acceptable to the localhealth authority. The evaluati

44、on shall be in accordance with therequirements for chemical extraction that are not less restric-tive than those included in NSF Standard 61. The seal or markof the laboratory making the evaluation shall be included onthe tubing.NOTE 2Further information regarding testing and approval can beobtained

45、 from an accredited certification provider.6. Requirements6.1 WorkmanshipThe tubing shall be homogeneousthroughout and free of visible cracks, holes, foreign inclusions,or other defects. The tubing shall be as uniform as commer-cially practicable in color, opacity, density, and other physicalpropert

46、ies. For tubing that incorporates a barrier layer per 5.3each layer shall meet the workmanship requirements per thissection.6.2 Dimensions and Tolerances:6.2.1 Compliance with this specification requires that fit-tings contained in Specifications F1807 and F2159 must meetthe Performance and Test Met

47、hod requirements of this stan-dard.6.2.2 Outside Diameters of TubingThe outside diametersand tolerances of the tubing including the layers shall be asshown in Table 3, when measured in accordance with 7.4 and7.4.1.6.2.3 Wall Thickness of TubingThe wall thickness andtolerances shall be as shown in Ta

48、ble 4, when measured inaccordance with 7.4 and 7.4.2.6.2.3.1 LayerTubing that incorporates an inner, middle orouter layer shall meet the minimum wall thickness andtolerances requirements as specified in Table 4. In addition, thelayer shall not result in the reduction of the total PE-RTmaterial below

49、 that specified in Table 4. In the case of tubingwith a middle layer, the total base PE-RT material wallthickness shall be the sum of the inner and outer base PE-RTmaterial wall thicknesses.6.2.4 Out-of-RoundnessThe maximum out-of-roundnessrequirements shown in Table 3 for tubing, apply to the averagemeasured diameter. Tubing shall be measured prior to coiling.6.3 Sustained PressureThe tubing and fittings, assembledusing the manufacturers instructions and tested as assemblies,shall not fail, balloon, burst, or weep at the test p
