Materials of construction shall be suitable for their applica-tion from the standpoints of corrosion resistance and mechanical performance.4.6.2 Design. The motor shall be of the squ
34、irrel-cage induction type, suitable for across-the-line starting and shall be capable of reduced-voltage starting. Ifspecified by the purchaser, the motor shall be capable of reduced-voltage-stopping oroperation using a variable frequency drive. The motor shall be capable of continuousoperation under
35、 water at the conditions specified by the purchaser.4.6.3 Temperature. The motor temperature shall be rated no higher than theallowable operating temperature of the motor thrust and radial bearings and in noFigure 1 Typical submersible-pump assembly (bowl assemblies)12 AWWA E102-06case shall it exce

A thrust bearing of ample capacity to carry the weightof rotating parts, plus the hydraulic thrust at maximum operating head, shall be anintegral part of the motor. For antifriction bearings, the bearing sh
37、all be of suchcapacity that the AFBMA calculated rating life (L10) shall be no less than 8,800 hr.If the design and operating conditions are such that upthrust can occur, properprovisions by the manufacturer shall be made to accommodate the upthrust. Thethrust bearing shall also have ample bearing c

For this purpose a minor irregularity in the motor shape, such asthat caused by the cable connection, shall not be included in
43、 the motor-diametermeasurement. For flow velocity conditions other than those recommended above, ashroud may be recommended by the manufacturer. The supplier shall verify motorshroud requirements based on operating flow characteristics provided by the purchaser.Sec. 4.7 Submersible Cable4.7.1 Conduc

Each conductor shall be insulatedby synthetic rubber or plastic insulation suitable for continuous immersion in water. When three or more single conductors are used, each shall be jacketed. The jacketmaterial shall be oil- and water-resistant synthetic rubber, metal

Cable fittings and terminals shall be watertight at the pressureencountered in use.4.7.4 Lengths. For eac
48、h 50 ft (15 m) of setting, 1 ft (0.3 m) of extra cableshall be allowed to compensate for possible twist or sag of the cable duringinstallation; 10 ft (3 m) shall be provided beyond the surface plate, unless otherwisespecified by the purchaser.14 AWWA E102-064.7.5 Mechanical shielding. The electrical

The plate shall provide suitable openings for the powercable, well vent, and water-level indicator as required. The plate shall provide asupport for the power cable as required by the electrical code. The plate shall alsosupport the discharge connection provided in a size adequate for the required flowrate and in a pressure series consistent with
