9、p 16:1992 ii BSI 09-1999 National foreword This Group of BS4727-3 has been prepared under the direction of the General Electrotechnical Standards Policy Committee and is identical with IEC50(714):1992 International Electrotechnical Vocabulary Chapter 714: Switching and signalling in telecommunicatio

10、ns, published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). For ease of production purposes the definitions given in French and Russian have been retained, together with the translation of the terms (but not definitions) given in German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish and Swedish. The glo

11、ssary is divided into five Parts, each of which is subdivided into Groups. Each Group will comprise the terms and definitions used in a particular branch of electrical engineering and will be issued individually as soon as it is completed. This arrangement makes it possible to add new Groups or revi

12、ew existing Groups at any time without affecting the remainder of the glossary. The five Parts of the glossary are as follows. Part 1: Terms common to power, telecommunications and electronics; Part 2: Terms particular to power engineering; Part 3: Terms particular to telecommunications and electron

13、ics; Part 4: Terms particular to lighting and colour; Part 5: Terms particular to electromedical equipment. Fundamental and general terms common to power, telecommunications and electronics from Groups 01 and 02 of Part 1. The specialist Groups (e.g. Groups03 to 13 of Part 1) contain only the terms

14、and definitions relating to their subject. As far as has been practical all terms and definitions established in current usage and falling within the scope of this glossary have been included. Experience has shown that it is rarely possible to replace, or even to modify, a well established term no m

15、atter what the logical or aesthetic shortcomings of that term may be. Current usage has therefore been accepted as the authority for terms and their meaning except where there has been a very good reason for doing otherwise, e.g.where terms have been considered to be fundamentally wrong, ambiguous,

16、superfluous or in need of standardization. Where two or more synonymous terms are in use, those which are deprecated are omitted from the body of the text but are entered in the alphabetical index with a cross-reference to the standard term. In cases where it was felt that the time was not yet right

17、 to deprecate a synonym, preferred terms are given first and the other terms are printed in less prominent type to indicate the intention to deprecate them in the course of time. Where synonyms are considered of equal value they are shown in the same type. Where terms are used with different meaning

18、s in different branches of electrical engineering, appropriate definitions are given in the Groups of the glossary corresponding to these branches. Such a definition, when taken out of the context of its Group, should if possible be quoted with a preamble indicating its proper context. It is to be n

19、oted that the given definition of a term represents the generally accepted meaning of that term. Under no circumstances should it be regarded as taking the place of a specification. As far as possible the terms are arranged in a logical order proceeding from the general to the specific and from the

20、whole to the part, and allied terms are placed close together. In earlier editions of BS 4727, a special national numbering system was used, however, to facilitate publication of future editions of BS 4727, only the International Electrotechnical Vocabulary numbering system is used.BS4727-3:Group 16

An alphabetical index of the terms of each Group is provided at the end of each Group to facilitate reference to particular terms. It is recommended that the user of any

22、Group of the glossary should consider the Group in association with the Groups covering general or fundamental terms within the Part and Groups 01 and 02 of Part 1. In this glossary parentheses ( ) enclose words or phrases that are not part of the terms or definitions and can be omitted without affe

23、cting the meaning. Square bracket enclose words which may replace a preceding part of an expression. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard

34、oups will be added in due course.BS4727-3:Group 16:1992 vi BSI 09-1999 Introduction Remarks and comments concerning Chapter 714 (Switching and signalling) and the way in which it has been prepared. 1. After reviewing existing terminology (C.C.I.T.T., IEV, ISO and I.E.E.E.), it was considered prefera

35、ble to revise the basic structure of the IEV chapter on switching and critically examine each of its definitions. At the beginning of the activity of Working Group H, within the framework of C.C.I./IEC co-operation as ensured by the JCG, it became apparent that many terms were either obsolete or obs

36、olescent, while some definitions no longer fulfilled the diverse requirements set by the vast practical possibilities of new technological developments. A number of new terms required definition, while others borrowed from neighbouring fields needed to be included. 2. Abstract principles have predom

37、inated over pragmatism and the material aspects which traditionally characterized the field of switching. Thus, the accent has been placed on defining functions rather than devices, so as to make the definitions independent of the material means used to carry out the functions, at least in those cas

38、es where the equipment itself is not the main subject of the definition. 3. A new and important factor had to be taken into consideration, namely that of interdisciplinary co-ordination. The introduction of stored programme control techniques and the integration of switching and transmission in digi

39、tal form have had a great impact on terminology and its underlying concepts. 4. The terms and definitions of this chapter are compatible with those of the other telecommunications chapters of the IEV, and particularly with the drafts in the most advanced stages of preparation, namely: Chapter 701: T

40、elecommunications channels and networks; Chapter 702: Oscillations, signals and related devices; Chapter 704: Transmission; Chapter 721: Telegraphy and data communication; Chapter 722: Telephony. 5. Modern and future switching systems will most probably have to cater for several different kinds of s

41、ervices such as telephony, data transmission, facsimile, etc. This has been taken into account by giving definitions of many terms well-established in any particular service which are sufficiently flexible to be applicable to use in other services. Thus, in many definitions the word “telephony” has

42、been replaced by “telecommunication”. As a result, for some terms more detailed or even different definitions are given in Chapters 721 and 722. However, care has been taken to ensure the compatibility of relevant concept. 6. The definitions of some terms have been worded in a more logical and coher

43、ent fashion, even in cases where a doubtful definition had been sanctioned by long usage. Nevertheless, while avoiding too many changes, it seemed worthwhile to attempt to end the confusion which surrounded certain pairs of terms such as“unidirectional” and “one-way”, “label” and “address”, “link” a
