11、mber 2002 National foreword This Section of BS 4778 has been prepared under the direction of the Quality, Management and Statistics Standards Policy Committee. It is a revision and extension of some of the terms defined in BS 4778-2:1979 and contains terms and definitions for availability, reliabili
12、ty and maintainability. A revised edition of the remaining terms in BS 4778-2:1979 has been published and the 1979 edition is withdrawn. This Part of BS 4778 is issued in two Sections as follows. Section 3.1 contains definitions of terms not included in Section 3.2 which the UK considers important i
13、n this field of application, and also the concepts of many of the terms contained in Section 3.2 to which direct reference is made. This Section is identical with IEC 60050(191), “International electrotechnical vocabulary Chapter 191: Dependability and quality of service”, including amendment 1:1999
14、, published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) which contains an extensive vocabulary of availability, reliability and maintainability terms and in the preparation of which the UK has taken an active role. The text of IEC amendment 1:1999 is reproduced as National Annex NA. NOTE
15、It has been decided to reproduce as the dual-numbered British Standard, the four language versions of the definitions and the nine language translations of the terms. BS 4778 will be published in the following Parts. Part 1: International terms; Part 2: Guide to quality concepts and related definiti
16、ons; Part 3: Availability, reliability and maintainability terms. Previous editions of BS 4778 were arranged in a conceptual format which provided additional explanation and perspective for the major terms defined, as well as the formal definitions themselves. Many users found this conceptual approa
17、ch helpful and this has been retained in BS 4778-2 and in BS 4778-2.3.1. BS 4778-1 and BS 4778-1.3.2 do not include concepts. This publication does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users are responsible for its correct application. Compliance with a British Standard
