9、tile Products Standards Committee and constitutes a revision of BS3358:1961 “Flax canvas water buckets” and BS4030:1966 “Cotton canvas buckets”, which have been withdrawn. In the drafting of this standard the opportunity has been taken to reduce the number of bucket designs and fabric types specifie

10、d and to align the requirements of this standard with BS3408 whenever possible. This standard does not specify requirements for the scale of sampling to be employed. In appropriate cases guidance can be obtained from BS6001. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions

11、 of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. 13、ated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS6170:1981 BSI 11-1999 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies requirements for the materials, design and making up of water buckets manufactured from flax canvas. 2 References The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are li

14、sted on the inside back cover. 3 Materials 3.1 Fabric for body, bottom and chapes (lugs). Unproofed flax canvas complying with the requirements ofTable 1 shall be used. It shall be rotproofed by the pentachlorophenyl laurate (PCPL) (normal) process specified in BS2087-1. The breaking strength of the

15、 proofed fabric shall be at least90% of the values quoted for unproofed fabric inTable 1. The total mass of proofing matter per unit area in the treated textile shall be not less than10% and not more than25%, when expressed as a percentage, of the mass per unit area of the unproofed fabric specified

16、 inTable 1. 3.2 Handles and rims. Sisal rope of10mm nominal diameter complying with the requirements of BS2052 and rotproofed by the PCPL (normal) process as specified in BS2087-1 shall be used. 3.3 Sewing thread. Thread used in the manufacture of flax canvas water buckets shall be a corespun thread

17、 ticket No.8, as specified in Table3 of BS 6157:1981. 4 Manufacture 4.1 Dimensions. The internal diameter shall be230mm at the bottom and280mm at the top with a slope depth of230mm. The finished length of the handle shall be580mm. The chapes for securing the handle shall be50mm wide. NOTEA bucket wi

18、th the above dimensions has a capacity of approximately 9litres when filled to50mm below the rim. 4.2 Construction. The body of the bucket shall be constructed of either one or two pieces of fabric sewn with run and fell seams on the joins. The bottom of the bucket shall be joined to the body as sho

19、wn inFigure 1. This produces a fabric configuration as described for seam type1.08.01 of BS3870-2. The chapes for securing the handle shall be positioned centrally over each side seam and shall straddle the rim. The raw edges of the chapes shall be turned and hemmed and the chapes shall be stitched

20、securely to the body. The handle shall consist of a length of rope (see3.2) with the ends looped through the chapes and spliced with three full tucks. The rim of the bucket shall be hemmed and a length of rope (see3.2) shall be inserted into the hem in such a manner that the whipped ends meet under

21、one of the chapes. All stitches shall be evenly tensioned and there shall be not less than24stitches per10cm. 5 Leakage Each bucket shall retain not less than90% of the initial quantity of water, when tested in accordance withAppendix A. 23、0:1981 2 BSI 11-1999 6 Marking Each bucket shall have a sewn-in label marked with the following particulars: a) the number of this British Standard, i.e.BS6170 1) ; b) the following instruction for use: “To increase the efficiency of this bucket soak it thoroughly in cold water before use”. 1) Marki

24、ng BS6170 on or in relation to a product is a claim by the manufacturer that the product has been manufactured in accordance with the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of such a claim is therefore solely the manufacturers responsibility. Enquiries as to the availability of third party certi

26、m of bucketsBS6170:1981 BSI 11-1999 3 Appendix A Determination of leakage A.1 Preparation of bucket Soak each bucket to be tested in water for24h, shake the bucket free of any adhering water and carry out the test immediately, with the bucket in a soaked condition. A.2 Procedure Suspend the bucket b

27、y the handle over a suitable vessel to collect any leakage. Fill the bucket with9litres of water by carefully siphoning from a measuring vessel. Allow the bucket to hang over the collecting vessel for1h from completion of filling and then determine the mass of water collected. A.3 Calculation Expres
