、erBS7033-4:1990 ii BSI 09-1999 Foreword This Part of this BS 7033 has been prepared under the direction of the Textiles and Clothing Standards Policy Committee. A wide range of cleaning and polishing cloths is in use for different applications. BS 7033 specifies requirements for a limited range of c

、loths, suitable for cleaning and polishing applications and is published in five Parts as follows: Part 1: Specification for optical polishing cloths for use on transparent plastics panels; Part 2: Specification for industrial wipers from reclaimed materials, and waste yarn for cleaning and lubricat

、ing purposes; Part 3: Specification for floorcloths and dishcloths; Part 4: Specification for window cleaning cloths; Part 5: Specification for general polishing cloths. In this Part requirements are specified for window cleaning cloths. The standard covers the end products quoted but can also be us

、ed to specify the fabrics from which they are manufactured. Requirements for chamois leather are specified in BS 6715. Many properties cannot be specified objectively and cannot therefore be included in the specification. Examples of such properties include colour, handle, appearance and details of

、additional design features. Public sector purchasing authorities may be able to supply standard patterns which cover these properties and thereby serve to resolve any ambiguities of description. The standard only covers the basic description of the products and their construction and performance req

、uirements. Purchasing authorities therefore may need to include additional information. Appendix A gives test methods. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with

、a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. In particular attention is drawn to Statutory Instrument No. 26 The Textile Products (Indications of Fibre Content) Regulations 1986. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages i a

、nd ii, pages1 to 4, an inside back cover and a back cover. This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS7033-4:1990 BSI 09-1999 1 1 Scope This Part of BS 7033 specifies requirem

NOTE 1The fabrics are normally made from polyvinyl alcohol fibres, needlefelted and chemically treated but other types of fabric are used, e.g. synthetic rubber coated, or bonded

、woven cellulosic fabrics or bonded cellulosic nonwovens. NOTE 2The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this Part of BS 7033 the following definitions apply. 2.1 batch a definite quantity of some commodity manu

A.3.2 Nonwovens Carry out the test in accordance with method 3 of BS 2471 except that the width of the cloth shall be determined in accordance wit

、h A.2. A.4 Wet burst strength Carry out the test in accordance with BS 4768, using a 30 mm diameter diaphragm, except for the following modifications. a) Number of test specimens. Take at least 10 cloths taken at random. b) Procedure. Immerse the test specimens for at least 5 min in water containing

、 0.5 g/L of sodium dioctyl sulphosuccinate. Allow to drain for5 1min and immediately measure the bursting strength. A.5 Dimensional stability Carry out the test in accordance with BS 5807, except that the washing and drying shall be in accordance with A.9. A.6 Abrasion resistance Carry out the test

、in accordance with BS 5690 except that the test specimen is tested with100 10% absorbed water (based on the mass of the dry conditioned test specimen) and the end point is taken as breakdown, or as the occurrence of pilling to rating 1 of BS 5811, whichever occurs the sooner. A.7.2 Test specimens From each of four cloths, conditioned in accordance with 4.2, cut at least one strip approximately 75 mm wide and of length such that the mass of each strip is 5 0.1 g. Take

、 half of the test specimens in the machine direction and half in the cross direction and an equal number of test specimens from each cloth. A.7.3 Procedure Measure the length and width of each test specimen to the nearest 1.0 mm and record the results. Fill the water container with water to a depth

、such that the cylindrical basket (A.7.1.1), when placed on its sides in the container, is submerged to a minimum depth of 25 mm. Dry the basket in the oven for a minimum period of2 h then allow it to cool to room temperature and weigh to the nearest 0.002 g. Roll each test specimen into a loose roll

、 of about the same diameter as that of the cylindrical basket. Place the test specimen in the basket, with its75mm edge parallel to the side of the basket so that the specimen fills the basket.BS7033-4:1990 BSI 09-1999 3 Weigh the basket and test specimen to the nearest0.002 g. Drop the basket, cont

、aining the test specimen, on its side into the water from a height of 25 mm above the surface of the water. Allow the basket and specimen to remain submerged for at least 5 min, then remove by grasping the open end of the basket. Suspend the basket plus specimen and allow it to drain until the rate

、of dripping is not greater than one drop per10s and then immediately weigh the basket and specimen to the nearest 0.002 g, in the tared watch glass. A.7.4 Calculation Calculate the absorptive capacity A (in g/m 2 ) from the equation: Repeat the test on the remaining test specimens. A.7.5 Report Repo

A.8 Surface drag Carry out the test in accordance with method 12B, mode 1 of BS 3424-10 except that the melton fabric is replaced by a sheet of clear float or polished plate g

、lass complying with BS 952-1 and the test specimen is tested with 100 10 % absorbed water (based on the mass of the dry conditioned test specimen).
