The standard also covers the strength of wall fastenings where

、 applicable. This standard does not specify the properties of the materials or electrical equipment used in the construction of foldaway beds. Folding beds, camping beds and convertible bed/chairs or settees are not covered by this standard. In Annex A (informative), the requirements are shown schem

、quirements and testing Part 2: Test methods. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this standard, the following definition applies: 3.1 foldaway bed a foldaway bed (hereafter referred to as bed) is a bed whose sleeping surface is rotated about at least one horizontal axis when being positioned for use 4

、 Safety and strength 4.1 Construction Exposed edges and protruding parts shall be rounded and free from burrs or sharp edges. There shall be no open-ended tubes. 4.2 Folding fittings There shall be no shear and pinching points unless they are secured against unintended access. When tested in accorda

、nce with 5.4 of EN1129-2the folding fittings shall be such as to ensure that neither the opening nor the closing force shall vary by more than20% between the two measurements. 4.3 Mounting of the foldable part to the frame The folding mechanism shall be fastened to the structure by means which will

、remain tight throughout the service life of the bed. The fasteners shall not loosen after testing in accordance with 5.4 of EN 1129-2. NOTEExperience has shown that a nut and bolt are satisfactory but an ordinary wood screw may not be. 4.4 Strength and durability When tested in accordance with 5.6 o

、f EN 1129-2, neither the constructional elements nor the wall mounting structure shall have loosened nor shall there be any damage which will affect the function and safety of the bed. 4.5 Unintended closing When tested in accordance with 5.5.3 of EN 1129-2, the foldable part shall not close automat

、ically, i.e. the supports shall not lift more than 5 mm from the floor. 4.6 Unintended opening The foldable part shall reclose automatically when opened up to a distance of150mm, measured from the top edge (see Figure6of EN 1129-2). The pressure force applied to the defined loading point (see Figure

、6 of EN 1129-2) shall be greater than250N when tested in accordance with 5.5.4 of EN 1129-2. Either the opening force required shall be not less than20N or a positive retaining catch shall be provided which retains the bed firmly in the closed position and which can be released only by use of a manu

、al security device, e.g. a key or a double action button. Locking mechanisms shall be constructed so that the operating force is at least50N. In the case of revolving elements, this force shall be applied tangentially at the point on the element furthest away from the axis of rotation. The opening e

、nergy, measured at an opening angle of70 , shall not exceed10Nm 1)when measured in accordance with 5.4 of EN 1129-2. 1) This value is measured taking into account the mass of the bed and the opening speed or the energy resulting from this opening speed.EN1129-1:1995 4 BSI 09-1999 However, bed constr

、uctions with an opening energy of up to60Nm 1)and gravity controlled beds with an opening energy of up to120Nm 1)(measured at an opening angle of70 in each case) are acceptable, providing the following conditions are satisfied. a) Opening Automatic closing after an opening length of250 mm; and weigh

、t to be supported during the opening process not greater than 100 N. b) Closing Opening length up to the automatic closing point for end pivoting beds 350 mm and for side pivoting beds 300 mm. NOTEOpening energy more than60Nm, respectively more than120Nm, is not accepted. 5 Mounting of the bed to th

、e building The bed shall be so constructed that its mounting shall conform to the following requirements NOTEFloor-to-ceiling beds, the mounting of which cannot be pulled over because of its proximity to the ceiling, are excluded. There shall be, at least, two fixing points and there shall be, at le

、ast, two holes for attachment in each fixing point (see also clause 6). The fastening devices and the installation instructions shall be supplied with the bed. The design of the fastening devices shall be such that no additional forces due to sagging of the floor, e.g. carpet or soft floor, up to15m

、m, may be transmitted to fastening devices. They shall be connected to the frame by the means described in4.3 or any equivalent safety devices. The fastening shall not be capable of being released from the inside. 6 Installation instructions Each bed shall be supplied with two sets of installation i

、nstructions. One durably and visibly attached near the fastening point. The instructions shall contain at least the following information: a) a warning against incorrect installation; b) the necessity for installation, and any further adjustment, to be carried out by competent persons only; c) the n

、eed to check the suitability of the floor and wall and that the fastening devices supplied with the product will withstand the forces generated; d) value of the test force F Hon each attaching point; e) the number of screws required, calculated in accordance with Annex B, for each fixing point; f) t

、he minimum and maximum weight of the mattress unless the bed is supplied with a mattress and/or has an adjustable tension system. 7 Marking All beds for which claim for conformity to this standard is made shall be marked with the following information: a) the name, registered trade name or registere

、d trade mark of either the manufacturer, distributor or retailer; b) the number of this part of EN 1129.EN1129-1:1995 BSI 09-1999 5 Annex A (informative) Foldaway beds: Test schemeEN1129-1:1995 6 BSI 09-1999 Annex B (normative) Calculation of the minimum number of screws for fixing points The locati

、on of the screws and the material thickness of the fitting shall be such as to ensure that the tensile force is equally distributed to all wall screws. The distance between the single wall screws shall be at least50mm. The minimum number n of screws to be used for each fixing point on the wall is ca

、lculated by the following equation: where F H= F p 5 + 100 where NOTEThis depends on the strength of the respective wall which has to be determined individually. The maximum force on each fastening point during opening and closing procedure may be determined by calculation or measurement. Tensile lo

、ads shall be considered positive but compressive loads shall be given zero value. F p is the maximum horizontal force on each fastening during opening and closing procedure; F H is the retaining strength of each fixing point (U 400 N); F S is the retaining force of each wall screw (resistance to dra
