31、flatflame(fishtailtype)20mmwideand(30 5)mmhigh.Intheoperatingposition, theflameshallcontactthesurfaceofthetestspecimenatadistanceof15mmfromtheverticalaxisoftheheater (seeFigure2),theburnernozzlebeingperpendiculartotheplaneofthetestspecimen. 5.1.7 HoodThetestapparatusisplacedbelowahoodwhichisprovided
32、withaforcedventilationsystem.This hoodhasasuitableopeninginitsupperpartforevacuatingtotheoutsideanygases,fumesandsmokeproduced bycombustion. 5.2 Ancillarytestequipment:Awattmeter,variabletransformer,voltageregulator,chronometer,andamethod formeasuringairspeed. 6 Testspecimen 6.1 Shapeanddimensions E

35、tives.Itisthereforenecessarytotakeallappropriateprecautions. 8.1 Verifiytheapparatusisreadyforuseandcorrectlycalibrated(seeannexA)andcarryoutthetestinstillair insidethehood.Theairspeed,measuredatthecentreoftheupperedgeofthegridwheninstalledwithasample, shallnotexceed0,2m/s. 8.2 Arrangetheheaterandit
36、sbaseonthebaseplateofthemetalframe(5.1.1)sothatthedistance,measured inaccordancewiththeverticalaxisoftheheater,betweenitsupperedgeandthesurfaceofthetestspecimen,is (30 1)mm.Thehorizontaldistancebetweentheaxisoftheheaterandtheloweredgeofthetestspecimenshall be75mm(seeFigure1). 8.3 Fixthetestspecimeno
37、ntothesupportgrid,usingthespikesprovidedforthepurpose,sothatthesurface ofthetestspecimenisincontactwiththegrid. 8.4 Whentheelectricheaterisprovidingastableoutput,atleast60minafterhavingbeenswitchedon,quickly positionthesupportgridandthetestspecimenonitssupportandsimultaneouslystartthechronometer(zer
38、otime forthetest). 8.5 Immediatelylowertheplateofnoncombustiblematerial(5.1.5)ontothetopofthetestspecimen. 8.6 20saftercommencingthetest,bringtheflameoftheburnerarrangementintotheoperatingpositionunder thetestspecimenandholditinthatpositionfor5sbeforeremovingit.Repeatthisoperationonceafter45s,and th

41、softhespecimendestroyedordamaged; d) thetypeofflamepropagation,eg.totalorpartial,andthepersistenceandpropagationofglowingareas; e) theissueofsmokeorfumesandtheircharacteristics(amount,appearance). 8.8 Aftertesting,leavethetestspecimenonthegridandmeasurethefollowing: a) themaximumlengthofthedestroyed
42、area,fromtheloweredgeofthetestspecimen; b) themaximumwidthofthedestroyedareacoveringthatpartofthetestspecimenbetween450mmand600 mmfromitsloweredge. Thedestroyedareaisassumedtobeeverypartofthematerialwhichismissing,totallycharred,showingan importantlossofresistance,oradeeplydamagedaspect.Theareasonly
