NOTEThis series of documents is in process of being revised; the future numbering is referenced in brackets later in this standard. 3 Preparation of specimens The specimens shall be fitted with all their contacts, wired in accordance with the detai
、l specification. 4 Test method For each test method described, five contacts shall be tested. Separate contact cavities shall be used for method1 and for method2. Method 1: Rotation of the extraction tool The specified extraction tool shall be introduced into a cavity containing the contact. An axia
、l load as specified in the detail specification shall be applied and maintained while alternating rotations of the tool are carried out as shown inFigure 1. The contact shall then be extracted with the extraction tool, and then reintroduced with the appropriate insertion tool. This operation shall b
、e carried out three times on each of the five contacts. Method 2: Rotation of the insertion tool The contact shall first be withdrawn and reinserted into its cavity using the insertion tool on which an axial load as specified in the detail specification is applied. With this load maintained, alterna
、ting rotations, as shown inFigure 1, shall be carried out. The tool is then extracted and the contact withdrawn with the extraction tool. This operation shall be carried out three times on each of the five contacts. If a tool is damaged during the test, a new tool shall be used. 5 Final measurements
、 The specimens shall be subjected to the following tests, if applicable: visual examination (test1a of IEC512-2 IEC512-1-1); contact retention in insert (test15a of IEC512-8 IEC512-15-1). 6 Details to be specified When this test is required by the detail specification, the following details shall be
、 specified: a) type and size of wire used; b) tool for insertion of contacts; c) tool for extraction of contacts; d) axial load to be applied on the tool for methods1 and2; e) value of contact retention force.EN60512-15-8:1995 4 BSI 02-1999 Figure 1 Alternating rotations of the toolEN60512-15-8:1995
