、ICAL FIBRE CABLES Part 5: Sectional specification Microduct cabling for installation by blowing FOREWORD 1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of
、 IEC is to promote international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (P
、AS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC Publication(s)”). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising wi
、th the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations. 2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as n
、early as possible, an international consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all interested IEC National Committees. 3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National Committees in t
、hat sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any misinterpretation by any end user. 4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committ
、ees undertake to apply IEC Publications transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence between any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in the latter. 5) IEC itself does not provide
、 any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any services carried out by independent certification bodies. 6) All users should ensure that they have the latest
、 edition of this publication. 7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or other damage of any nature whatsoever, whethe
、r direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and expenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC Publications. 8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications is indi
、spensable for the correct application of this publication. 9) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this IEC Publication may be the subject of patent rights. IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. International Standard IEC 60794
、-5 has been prepared by subcommittee 86A Fibres and cables, of IEC technical committee 86: Fibre optics. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition, published in 2006, and constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect
、 to the previous edition: the addition of constructional requirements, including a reference to IEC 60794-3 for microduct optical fibre cables; the specification has been streamlined by cross-referencing IEC 60794-1-1. BS EN 60794-5:2016 4 IEC 60794-5:2014 IEC 2014 The text of this standard is based
、 on the following documents: CDV Report on voting 86A/1588/CDV 86A/1620/RVC Full information on the voting for the approval of this standard can be found in the report on voting indicated in the above table. This publication has been drafted in accordance with the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2. A list
、of all parts in the IEC 60794 series, published under the general title Optical fibre cables, can be found on the IEC website. The committee has decided that the contents of this publication will remain unchanged until the stability date indicated on the IEC website under “http:/webstore.iec.ch“ in
、the data related to the specific publication. At this date, the publication will be reconfirmed, withdrawn, replaced by a revised edition, or amended. 38、ope This part of IEC 60794, which is a sectional specification, specifies the requirements of microduct optical fibre cables, microduct fibre units, microducts and protected microducts for installation by blowing for outdoor and/or indoor use. The microduct optical fibre cables and microduct fibre u
、nits utilize the structure of the microduct or protected microducts to support installation and to provide protection over the design lifetime. These products may be used for applications such as communication and transmission networks, transmission, telephone and data processing equipment, control
、and monitoring applications. The cabling structures described in this sectional specification are uniquely designed to facilitate and take advantage of installation by blowing into microducts. IEC TR 62839-1 gives rules to build an environmental declaration, if needed. 2 Normative references The fol

BS EN 60794-5:2016 6 IEC 60794-5:2014 IEC 2014 4 Construction 4.1 General The intent is that the microduct optical fibre cables, microduct fibre units, microducts and protected microducts shall be designed and manufactured for a predicted ope
、rating lifetime of at least 20 years. The tests of this specification are intended to assess the performance of cables as manufactured and under agreed ageing and performance-limit tests. These tests are not intended to define end-of-life performance, but may be used as agreed between the customer a
、nd the supplier to predict such performance. It shall be possible to install or remove the microduct optical fibre cable or microduct fibre unit in or from the microducts by blowing during the operational lifetime. When considering recovering a product for potential re-use, care shall be taken to mi
、nimize stress on the product and that the product is carefully handled and packaged in accordance with the suppliers guidelines. Good practice would also indicate that all products are appropriately tested if re-deployed. The materials in the microduct optical fibre cable, microduct fibre unit, micr
、oduct or protected microduct shall not present a health hazard within its intended use. 4.2 Optical fibre General 4.2.1The optical fibre shall conform to the requirements of IEC 60793-2. The fibre type shall be agreed between the customer and supplier. Attenuation 4.2.2Attenuation coefficient 4.2.2.
、1The typical maximum attenuation coefficient of a microduct optical fibre cable or microduct fibre unit is dependent upon the fibre type(s) used. Typical values are given in IEC 60794-1-1. Particular values may be agreed between the customer and supplier. The attenuation coefficient shall be measured in accordance with IEC 60793-1-40. Attenuation discontinuities 4.2.2.2Point discontinuities shall conform to IEC 60794-1-1. Cut-off wavelength 4.2.3For single-mode f
