23、examination of fibre optic piece parts, connectors and passive components. The examination method may be used at any stage of the qualification or quality conformance inspection process, as a stand-alone test, or as required by the relevant specification. Visual examination of the polished end-face
24、is defined in IEC/PAS 61300-3-35 and does not form part of this document. 1 General description This standard describes two examination techniques. b) Method 1: Visual examination of the specimen to ensure that it is of the proper configuration, that the workmanship is satisfactory and that the mark
25、ing is correct. b) Method 2: Mechanical examination of the specimen to ensure that the dimensions and mass conform to the relevant specification. NOTE Ensure the sample is un-energised, i.e. it is not transmitting optical power, prior to undertaking a visual examination. 1 Apparatus The apparatus sh
26、all consist of the following elements. 1.1 Visual examination Where specified in the relevant specification, visual examination shall be undertaken using an optical magnifier and an illuminator. 1.1.1 Optical magnifier Use an achromatic lens with a magnification power value between 2 and 5. An anti-
27、reflection lens coating is recommended, but not mandatory. 1.1.1 Illuminators Integral or supplementary magnifier illumination may be utilized. Sources shall produce neutral “white light”, temperature-corrected to approximately 3 000 K. Positive ventilation or other illuminator provisions shall prev
28、ent deleterious heat transfer to test specimens. 29、eters according to the relevant specification. 1.1 Mechanical examination 1.1.1 Dimensional measurement instruments The accuracy and precision of dimensional measurement instruments, such as micrometers, measure scope, or profile projectors shall be sufficient to satisfy the specification requiremen
30、ts. 1.1.1 Mass measurement instruments The accuracy and precision of mass measurement instruments, such as electric balances, shall be of sufficient to satisfy the specification requirements. 1.1.1 Special equipment In some cases, special equipment such as gauges, etc., may be required to verify per
31、formance or other specified parameters according to the relevant specification. 1 Procedure 1.1 Method 1a Unaided visual examination The procedure for method 1a is the following. a) Prior to testing, clean the specimen according to the manufactures instructions. a) Gently put the specimen onto the e
32、xamination table or into the appropriate fixture, or gently hold the specimen by the fingers. a) Examine the specimen visually to verify that it meets the specified requirements. Examples where unaided visual examination might be used include: identification of product (marking); damage (scratch, pi
33、t, crack); contamination, stain; missing parts. 1.1 Method 1b Aided visual examination The procedure for method 1b is the following. a) Prior to testing, clean the specimen according to the manufacturers instructions. a) Gently put the specimen onto the examination table or into the appropriate fixt
34、ure of the visual examination apparatus. a) Adjust the lenses to achieve the required magnification as stated in the relevant specification. a) Examine the specimen visually using the specified optical magnification to verify that it meets the specified requirements.
