4、ersion of EN ISO 5778:2000. It is identical with ISO 5778:1998. It supersedes BS MA 8:1983 which is withdrawn. The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical Committee SME/32, Ships and marine technology Steering committee, which has the responsibility to: aid enquirers to unders

5、tand the text; present to the responsible international/European committee any enquiries on the interpretation, or proposals for change, and keep the UK interests informed; monitor related international and European developments and promulgate them in the UK. A list of organizations represented on t

6、his committee can be obtained on request to its secretary. NOTE When the standard was published as an international standard, the United Kingdom did not implement it as a British Standard as it was considered inferior to the existing BS MA 8:1983. The requirements contained in the international stan

7、dard were not as carefully defined or as rigorous as in the British Standard. However, with the adoption of the international standard as a European Standard, the United Kingdom is obliged to implement it as the national standard superseding BS MA 8:1983. Therefore, care should be taken when followi

8、ng this standard that any statutory or classification society requirements are still met. 19、ionsarelefttothemanufacturer. Thehatchesaresuitableforloadingoperationsandforgivingaccesstostoragecompartmentsanddrycarg oholds. Thehatchesarenotsuitableasanaccesstoanykindoftanksandshallnotbeusedasescapehatches. ThesehatchesgenerallyconformtotherequirementsoftheInternationalConventiononLoa dLines19

20、66(LLC66). Thepossibilityforapplicationinposition1andposition2hastobeconsideredforeachsituatio n and, where necessary, thehatchcoversshallbeprovidedwithadditionalstiffening. 35、turedfromweldable mildsteelof340N/mmminimumtensilestrength. Thetoggleboltsandtheirpinsshallbemanufacturedfromcorrosionresistantmaterialsof35 0 N/mmminimum tensilestrength. Thequalityoftheresilientsealmaterialformingthehatchsealshallbesatisfactoryforserviceundermarine conditions and shall provide eff

36、ectiveandlastingsealingandresealingpropertieswhenthehatchistightenedunder normalconditions. 5Qualityofmanufacture Coamingsandcoversshallbefreefromdistortion. Coamings,coversandfittingsshallbefreefromanyexposedroughedgeslikelytocauseinjurytopersons. Forcoamingsseealso3.2. Thecoamingsandcoversshallbes

37、uitablytreatedbyblastcleaningoranotherprocesstoremovescaleand surfacedepositsandshallbegivenaprimingcoatofpainttoinhibitsubsequentcorrosion. Uponassemblyofthecompletedcoamingandcover,themanufacturershallensuretha t there is correct registry of theedgeofthecoamingwiththehatchsealmaterialandcontinuous

38、contactbetweenthetwocomponents when the hatchisclosed. 6Testingofweathertightness Thecompletedhatch,wheninstalledonboardship,shallbeclosedan dsecuredinanormalmanner,andthen subjectedtoatest(hosetestorequivalenttest)carriedouttothesatisfactio n of the representative of the regulatory bodyconcerned. 7
