20、98 ii BSI 05-1999 Foreword ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a sub

21、ject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (I

22、EC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least75% of the member bodies casting a vote. International Stand

This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO8989:1988) which has been revised so that the test is carried out with grade3 water as defined in ISO3696 rather than distill

Descriptors: Plastics, resins, liquid resins, phenoplasts, tests, mixing tests, determination, mixing water.ENISO8989:1998 BSI 05-1999 1 1 Scope This International Standard specifies a method for the determination of the miscibility of water with liquid phenolic resins. Water miscibility i

At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid.

26、All standards are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this International Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards listed below. Members of IEC and ISO maintain registers of currently valid International Standards

Water is added to the resin until turbidity persists for a minimum of30s after agitation. 4 Reagent Wate

Prior to tes

31、ting, the resin and grade3 water (clause 4) shall be conditioned at that temperature. 7 Procedure 7.1 Preliminary test When the water miscibility of the resin to be tested is unknown, a preliminary test shall be performed to determine its approximate value. 7.2 Actual test Based on the result of the

32、 preliminary determination (7.1), a test portion of10g to50g is chosen for the actual test. Weigh the test portion, to the nearest0,01 g, into the100ml beaker (5.1). If the expected water miscibility (i.e.that determined in 7.1, if it was unknown) exceeds900%(m/m), use a container of larger volume.

33、Verify, using the thermometer (5.2), that the temperature of the resin is23C 0,1C. Place the beaker on the magnetic stirrer (5.3). By means of the burette (5.4), add grade3 water, also preconditioned at23C 0,1C, in accordance with the following procedure: the first addition shall be approximately50%

34、 of the quantity expected to be required to reach the miscibility limit (i.e.approximately50% of that determined in the preliminary test if the miscibility was unknown); subsequent additions shall be approximately10% of the quantity expected to be required, until turbidity occurs and vanishes again

35、upon stirring; verify with the thermometer that the temperature of the mixture is23C 0,1C, then resume the addition of water dropwise until the turbidity persists for at least30s. Record the volume (V ml) of water added. NOTE 1For some resins, it may be of interest to measure both the opalescent tur

36、bidity and the opaque turbidity. (In the latter case, the mixture becomes milky or precipitation occurs.) If the opaque turbidity is also measured, it will be necessary to record separately the volume V 1of water required to produce opalescent turbidity and the volume V 2required to produce opaque t

37、urbidity.ENISO8989:1998 2 BSI 05-1999 8 Expression of results The miscibility of the resin with water WM, expressed as a percentage by mass, is given by the formula where NOTE 2It is also possible to express the results as the ratio 1 : x where x = WM/100. 9 Test report The test report shall include

38、 the following information: a) a reference to this International Standard; b) all details necessary for complete identification of the resin tested; c) the test result, calculated in accordance with clause 8; d) the date of the test. NOTE 3If both opalescent turbidity and opaque turbidity were deter

39、mined, as discussed in 7.2, note1, there will be two results. V is the volume, in millilitres, of water added (i.e. V g if it is assumed that the density of water is1kg/l at23C); m is the mass, in grams, of the test portion.
