17、oved and new functions have been added in toilet compartments which make public restrooms more accessible to users. On the other hand, types of operating buttons have been diversified and they are placed in random locations. Also, operating methods have been diversified and the difficulty of discrim
18、ination and the use of the buttons have been raised as an issue. As users use toilet compartments alone in most cases unless s/he needs an attendant, it is impossible to ask someone the whereabouts of a flushing button and a call button or ask for help. Especially, persons with visual disabilities h
19、ave difficulty to find a flushing button and a call button when the arrangement of these buttons differs with places. This problem is not limited only to persons with disabilities, but also to older persons. This International Standard aims to solve problems which older persons and persons with disa
20、bilities encounter when they use public restrooms. 21、 Standard specifies shapes and colours of a flushing button and a call button of lavatory which are installed on the wall and their arrangement with a paper dispenser. This International Standard is only applicable in case of installing a flushing button and/or a call button on the wall of seat-type
22、 lavatory in public restrooms (general toilet compartments and toilet compartments with various functions) used by an unspecified large number of people, except restrooms with a big paper holder where it is difficult to place a flushing button and a call button above the holder, and Type A toilet wi

The figuration of a call button sh
28、all be easily distinguishable from the flushing button (for example, quadrangle, rectangle, or triangle) by touch. The sizes of a flushing button and a call button shall be easy to push by a finger, as well as a palm or top of a hand.The height of a button should be stuck out from the surrounding su
29、rface so that persons with visual disabilities can recognize the button by the touch.5 Colour and contrast of a flushing button and a call buttonThe colours of a flushing button and a call button and its contrast with the surrounding colours are defined as follows.NOTE The surrounding mentioned in t
30、his International Standard is the area adjacent to a flushing button and a call button.5.1 Colours of buttonsThe colours of a flushing button and a call button shall be different enough to be distinguishable from each other.NOTE A call button is usually coloured in red because it is used for the pur
31、pose of assistance alarm.5.2 Contrast between the colours of a flushing button and a call button and the surrounding coloursThe contrast between the colours of a flushing button and a call button and the surrounding colours shall be retained. (See visual contrast in ISO 21542:2011, B.7).6 Arrangemen
32、t of a flushing button, a call button, and a paper dispenserArrangement of a flushing button, a call button, and a paper dispenser is defined as follows:a) a flushing button, a call button, and a paper dispenser shall be arranged in a way that most users can operate and users with visual disabilitie
33、s can recognize easily. Various postures such as sitting and standing shall be taken into consideration;b) a flushing button, a call button, and a paper dispenser shall be arranged in a group on either side of the wall;c) a flushing button shall be installed on the upper side of a paper dispenser. A
34、 call button shall be placed at the same height as a flushing button and placed toward the rear of a toilet seat;d) a flushing button, a call button, and a paper dispenser should be established in the position that satisfies the conditions given in Figure 1 and Table 1;e) if other pieces of equipmen
35、t such as a handrail, a remote controller for washing equipment with warm water, and/or a wash basin are installed on the same surface of the wall with a flushing button, a call button, and a paper dispenser, those pieces of equipment shall be arranged in a way that they do not interfere the use and
36、 operation of a flushing button, a call button, and a paper dispenser;f) even if the dimensions do not conform to Figure 1 and Table 1 due to the figuration of a paper dispenser or the surface condition of the side wall of the compartment, the positional relationship described in c) shall be maintai
