、rd This standard includes safety requirements. This document (EN 14044:2014) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 192 “Fire and rescue service equipment” (Secretariat: BSI, United Kingdom), Working Group WG 4 “High rise aerial appliances” (Secretariat: DIN, Germany). The responsible Germa
、n body involved in its preparation was the Normenausschuss Feuerwehrwesen (Firefighting and Fire Protection Standards Committee), Working Committee NA 031-04-08 AA Hubrettungsfahrzeuge. The revision of DIN EN 14044:2009-08 became necessary to adapt the technical content to the current state of the a
、rt and to support future developments. The previous editions of this European Standard (DIN EN 14044), together with DIN EN 14043 (High rise aerial appliances for fire and rescue service use Turntable ladders with combined movements Safety and performance requirements and test methods) and DIN EN 17
、77(Hydraulic platforms (HPs) for firefighting and rescue services Safety requirements and testing) superseded the national standards DIN 14701-1:1989-04, DIN 14701-2:1989-04 and DIN 14701-3:1991-07 which specified requirements for and the testing of turntable ladders and similar firefighting vehicle
、s in Germany. Turntable ladders with sequential movements are seldom to be found in service in Germany due to their having technical drawbacks compared with turntable ladders with combined movements according to DIN EN 14043. As a result, this National Foreword cannot follow the example of DIN EN 14
、043 in comparing the turntable ladders to DIN 14701-2 previously used in Germany with turntable ladders to this European Standard. Should it be necessary to procure a turntable ladder with sequential movements conforming to the designation used in Clause 6 of this standard to replace a turntable lad

These gu
、idelines were laid down as a technical standard at Federal level and it is recommended that they also be introduced in the Lnder. Therefore, the steering committee NA 031 BR Lenkungsausschuss des Normenausschusses Feuerwehrwesen (FNFW) has decided to include the nominal rescue projection in designat
、ions of turntable ladders. These short designations as decided on by NA 031 BR are included in the list of firefighting vehicle types maintained by the FNFW (availabile at the FNFWs Internet site, www.fnfw.din.de). The compact FNFW vehicle type list includes the most important vehicle types that are
、 included in standards developed by the FNFW. Working Committee NA 031-04-08 AA Hubrettungsfahrzeuge recommends the use of a three-person crew (1 driver + 2 persons; in German Truppbesatzung 1/2), and to ensure operability even in narrow areas a minimum load carrying capacity of two persons at a jac
、king width of 4,5 m or lower so that the nominal rescue projections specified for that type of ladder can be reached. Greater nominal projections and jacking widths are permitted at the responsibility of the manufacturer. It is recommended not to exceed a maximum vehicle width of 2,5 m. Users of thi
、s European Standard should note that the specifications of the German Lnder building regulations, as well as DIN 14090, apply as regards the space necessary to ensure fire brigade access to premises; these specifications will have an effect on the design of vehicles as in this standard, e.g. dimensi
、ons, gross laden mass and axle loads. Users should also note that in addition to the general requirements for firefighting vehicles in accordance with DIN EN 1846-2 and DIN EN 1846-3, the national standards E DIN 14502-2 and DIN 14502-3 are applicable. Specifications regarding periodic inspections o
、f firefighting vehicles are given in BGG/GUV-G 9102, Prfgrundstze fr Ausrstung und Gerte der Feuerwehr (Test criteria for firefighting equipment).
