5、 foreword This standard includes safety requirements in Clauses 5, 6 and 8. This standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 181 “Dedicated liquefied petroleum gas appliances” (Secretariat: AFNOR, France). The responsible German body involved in its preparation was the Normenausschuss G
6、astechnik (Gas Technology Standards Committee) and in agreement with the DVGW Deutsche Vereinigung des Gas- und Wasserfaches e. V. (German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water). It is intended to include this standard in the body of technical rules and standards for gas issued by t
7、he DVGW Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches e.V. This European Standard deals with the constructional and performance characteristics, safety specifications, relevant test methods and marking of dedicated liquefied petroleum gas appliances including contact grills for outdoor use. For the ins
8、tallation and operation of the appliances for private use, the DVGW-Arbeitsblatt G 612, Betrieb von ortsvernderlichen Flssiggasanlagen im Freizeitbereich zur Verwendung im Freien (Operation of movable leisure liquified petroleum gas appliances for outdoor use) applies. For the commercial sector, the
9、 Employers Liability Association regulation BGV D34, Verwendung von Flssiggas (Use of liquefied petroleum gas) is to be applied. In Germany, the gas appliances described in DIN EN 498 shall only be supplied complete with flexible hose and regulator suitable for use in Germany (see Note at the foot o
10、f Table A.2). Alternatively, a suitable connector for connection to the safety connector of a leisure vehicle may be used, whereby it must be ensured that for appliances in accordance with DIN EN 1949 (see footnote b in Table A.1) an operating pressure of 30 mbar is maintained. Regarding the nationa
11、l requirements for hose assemblies, reference is made to DIN 4815-2. DIN EN 498:2012-04 3 Amendments This standard differs from DIN EN 498:1998-12 as follows: a) in the title of the standard “contact grill” has been added; b) the scope of the standard has been extended to cover contact grills; c) no
12、rmative references have been amended and updated; d) terms and definitions have been amended and revised; e) requirements for crosslighting have been rendered more precise; f) examples of useful parts of gripping areas (Figure 5) have been added; g) examples of schemes for dimensions of gas cylinder

The main changes compared to the former version are the following: approved quick self closing connection used for auxiliary burners are not subjected to the obligation of being manufactory mounted; clearer specifications for lighting and cros
39、s lighting when more than one burner are in a same enclosure, use of flash tube; introduction of a logo or warning forbidding cylinders in places of the appliance not designed for cylinder storage; rewording of the test for checking over heating of gas cylinder compartment; addition of a warning abo
40、ut the updating of information relating to national situations; addition of an annex listing the mandatory sentences to be written on appliances, packaging and in instructions in the various CEN members countries languages. Items relating to quality assurance systems, production testing and particul
41、arly certificates of conformity of auxiliary equipment are not covered by this European Standard. Particular attention should be paid to the quality of non metallic materials used in the construction of these appliances. A European Standard specifying requirements for “Rubber materials for seals and
42、 diaphragms for gas appliances and equipment“ has been prepared by CEN TC 108 (EN 549). A European Standard for “Flexible hose, tubing and assembles for use with butane or propane in the vapour phase“ is being prepared. EN 498:2012 (E) DIN EN 498:2012-045 1 Scope This European Standard specifies the constructional and performance characteristics, safety specifications, relevant test methods and marking of barbecues burning
45、 liquefied petroleum gas, referred to in the body of the text as “appliances“. This European Standard covers barbecues as defined in 3.6 and contact grills as defined in 3.8, used outdoors and operating with the gases indicated in 4.1 according to the categories indicated in 4.2. They are fitted wit
46、h at least one cooking device. This European Standard applies to these appliances and their functional sections whether or not the latter are independent or incorporated into an assembly. This European Standard also applies to appliances designed to be built-in. This European Standard only applies t
47、o type testing. Appliances supplied with third family gas at pressures greater those defined in 4.2 are outside the field of application of this European Standard. During the consideration of this text, it was apparent that the concept of thermal efficiency with regard to appliances such as barbecues was not appropriate.
