1、I I A-A-59525 14 December 1999 SUPERSEDING 22 JANUARY 1988 MIL-B-40042E COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION BOX, MATCH, WATERPROOF The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for the one type of MIL-B-40042 for all Federal agencies. 1. SCOP
2、E. The plastic waterproof matchbox with an integrally mounted striking surface is intended to be included in military personnel survival kits. 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. The body of the matchbox shall be 2-1 1/16 inches long minimum with a minimum diameter of 1-3/32 inches. The cap shall be li32 in
3、ch deep minimum with a minimum diameter of 1 -3/16 inches. The matchbox shall protect the matches from soil and moisture with no limitations to climatic conditions, shall have an integral or permanently mounted striking surface for the match, and shall accommodate 20 “kitchen-type“ large wooden stic
4、k matches. The matchbox shall be crush resistant. The preferred design is tubular with a screw on cap, attached to prevent loss. The color shall conform to Camouflage Green 483 (chip no. 34094) of FED-STD-595 (Colors Used In Government Procurement). Other materials, shapes, colors and/or designs may
5、 be considered with the approval of the procurement activity. Note: Figure 1 is provided for guidance purposes only 2.1 Materials 2.1.1 Sealing gasket. The sealing gasket shall be made from material that will not absorb nor allow penetration of water through the material. The diameter of the gasket
6、shall not be larger than the inside diameter of the cap and shall be not more than 1/16 inch smaller than the inside diameter of the cap. 8、grit, and shall not separate either partially or completely from the sealing gasket. 2.1.3 Adhesive. The sealing gasket shall be bonded to the cap and the striking disk shall be bonded to the sealing gasket.These bonds shall be stable and last the lifetime of the matchbox. 2.2 LabeUmarking The ident
9、ification marking of each matchbox shall have the letters “US“ and the manufacturers identification or logo placed legibly and indelibly on the bottom of the matchbox as shown on the figure. 2.3 Labelhag. Each item shall be individually bar-coded with a paper tag. The paper tag shall be standard ble
10、ached sulfate having a basis weight of 100 pounds. The paper used for the tags shall have a smooth finish to accept thermal transfer and direct printing. The tags shall have a hole and shall be attached to each item by a fastener, clearly legible and readable by a scanner. The bar coding element sha
11、ll be a 13 digit national stock number (NSN). The bar code type shall be a medium to high code density and shall be located so that it is completely visible on the item when it is folded and/or packaged as specified and so that it causes no damage to the item. 3. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. The offeror
12、/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this comme
13、rcial item description, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 4.2 Visual examination Each matchbox s
14、hall be examined for the defects listed below. 4.2.1 Defects. Color and luster not as specified; discolored, faded, resin-streaked or mottled; wrinkle, pimple, or cater; crazing, pitted, rough, or porous surface; surface scaly, hazy, chalky, or burned; any dirt on molding material; any deep scratch
15、or gouge mark on the exterior or the box; sealing gasket not in one piece, missing or loose; gasket crack, extended through body; cut, tear, hole, loose, skin, spongy, scar, void or otherwise defective gasket; gasket bulged out from too tight a fit; striking surface torn, detached, missing, loose, n
16、ot centered, or not positioned with abrasive side showing; area of grit missing or otherwise damaged; not free from visual evidence of warpage, cracks, swelling or distortion; threads missing, stripped, fractured or impaired; cap cannot be screwed on freely or with pressure; adhesive tacky or extend
17、s beyond striking surface; body or cap warped, twisted, deformed, bent out of shape, split, or otherwise impaired; marking omitted, illegible, incorrect or misplaced; marking not specified type, location or application manner; measurement of item not as specified; bar code omitted or not readable by
18、 scanner; human-readable interpretation (HRI) omitted or illegible; bar code not visible on folded, packaged item; bar code causes damage to the item; any items not packaged in accordance with the contract or purchase order. 4.2.2 Acceptance criteria. Acceptance criteria shall be as specified in the
