2、ope. This.specification covers the standard series of deep drawn, empty, lightweight, aluminum field chests, composed of standardized elements as hereinafter specified. Chests shall be suitable for the safe transportation of medical material under field conditions in any global environmental conditi

Except as specified herein, materials shall conform to the applicable portions of the specifications, standards, and drawing specified herein, and shall be capable o
16、f meeting tihe requirements specified therein. In addition, the metals shall conform to the chemical requirements of their applicable specifications when tested as specified in 4.4.4. When materials to be used are not specifically designated, those used shall be of the highest commercial quality, an
17、d entirely suitable for the purpose intended. 3 . 1.1 Aluminum. 3.1.1.1 The chest body, cover, separator pan, gasket retaining channel, drawbolt hanger plate, drawbolt lock, handle-plate, packboard hook plate, and corner reinforcement shall be constructed of 5052-TO aluminum alloy sheet conforming t
18、o QQ-A-250/8. 3.1.1.2 The handle shall be constructed of aluminum alloy conforming to grade AA-6063 of SAE AA-2024. The handle sleeve shall be constructed of 2024-T3 aluminum alloy conforming to QQ-A-200/3. of 2024-T4 aluminum alloy conforming to QQ-A-225/6. The strap and shouldered screw shall be c
19、onstructed 3.1.2 Corrosion-resistinq steel. 3.1.2.1 The drawbolt top hinge pin, separator pan washer, hexagon nuts and rivets shall be fabricated of corrosion- resisting steel conforming to class 302 or 304 of QQ-S-766. 3.1.2.2 The slot clip, and packboard hook shall be fabricated of corrosion-resis
20、ting steel conforming to class 430 of QQ-5-766. 3.1.3 Spring handle. Handle springs shall be constructed of steel wire conforming to QQ-W-470, except that the wire shall be uniformly coated with commercially pure zinc. The minimum weight of zinc coating shall be 0.30 ounces per square foot of surfac
21、e. 3.1.4 Rubber. Rubber for the gasket shall be a natural rubber, pure gum compound. The primer shall be zinc chromate conforming to color Y of TT-P-1757. 3.1.6 Enamel. The e
24、namel shall be synthetic lustreless olive drab, conforming to TT-E-527. The color shall be 34087 of FED- STD-595 (see 6.2). The enamel for identification marking (3.7) shall be black, color 37038 of FED-STD-595 (see 6.3), and shall also conform to TT-E-527. 3.1.7 Sealer. Sealer shall be 3M No. EC-80
25、0 or No. 2216, or Product Research 61 Chemical Corporation sealant, Part No. RR- 1422-B1/2 or a commercial sealer with the same specifications and tolerances, 3.1.8 Drawbolt fastener. Material for the drawbolt fastener shall be as specified on the drawing. O 3.2 Construction. The chest shall conform
26、 in al1 details to the requirements specified herein and as shown on the drawing, except that the embossed surfaces on the top of chests, elements 6 and 7, shall have a tolerance of 3/16 inch in concavity and convexity. The construction shall be sound, durable, and capable of meeting all tests herei
27、nafter specified. All hardware shall be flush-mounted, However, handles and draw-bolt fasteners shall project no further than 1/8 inch beyond the plane of the chest outer surface. 3.2.1 Detail. Each chest shall consist of an aluminum body with cover and separator pan where indicated, symmetrically m
28、ade, smoothly and properly finished. The chest body, cover, separator and channel retaining member for the rubber gasket shall be seamlessly die-drawn and trimmed as shown on the drawing. Slight flex warp to the cover element is acceptable. All other component shall have no flex, dimensional warp or

Each chest shall be composed of the respective chest elements as indicated in Table II, and constru

All parts shall b
31、e die-stamped and formed for uniform and interchangeable assembly. The slots in chest elements Nos. 2, 4, 6, and 7, respectively, wherein the drawbolt strike engages, shall be reinforced by a corrosion-resisting steel clip as shown on th drawing. 3.2.4 Gasket. The gasket shall be molded of the mater
32、ial specified in 3.1.4 and shall conform to the applicable portions of the drawing. (see 5.2). The gasket shall be suitably treated to prevent adhesive at the sealing edge. The finished gasket shall be capable of sealing and resealing the chest during functional testing of the completed chest, rende
33、ring it watertight in repeated use. with specification requirements, the gasket shall be fitted into its retaining member (see 4.4) . The molded gasket shall be placed into the chest When chests are tested to determine compliance 3.2.5 Drawbolt fasteners. The drawbolt fastener shall be fabricated in
34、 accordance with the drawing. 3.3 Weldinq. All welding shall be done with appropriate equipment properly regulated and operated by.thoroughly trained and experienced welders skilled in the operations of aluminum welding. Spot welds shall be on not more than 2-inch centers, and e shall be accomplished so as to insure sound welds of sufficient stren
36、gth and completeness to tear the spot out of the parent metal when pulled apart. All exposed spot welds, seam and fillet weld shall be smooth and finished in accordance with best commercial practice. 3.4 Tolerances. Standard commercial tolerances shall be permissible on material gage sizes. Dimensio
37、nal tolerances shall be as specified on the drawing. Tolerances shall be held to a minimum for hinges, hinge-pins, bearings, channels, and all other fittings where accuracy is of paramount importance for proper operation and interchangeability of component parts. Sub and general assemblies shall be
38、precision-fitted for durable, smooth, and consistent functioning. End item interchangeability is most important due to varying end item uses. 3.4.1 Application of tolerances. The tolerances shown on the drawing shall be taken in such a manner that the followins requirments I. II. III. IV. V. - throu
39、gh V, inclusive, are conformed to: Chest elements shall be of such size that the appropriate “GO“ gage can be freely inserted (see 4.4.3). Rim of body shall be of sufficient height to prevent cover from contacting shoulder when properly secured to body. Chest cover shall be of such size as to freely
40、 overlay chest body and shall assemble thereto by the use of the drawbolt fastener attached to the chest body. The container as totally assembled, with gasket in place, shall be leakproof. Drawbolts and other hardware shall operate smoothly, shall not bind, and shall be capable of being easily opera
41、ted by hand without the use of tools. Chest bodies and chest covers shall be completely interchangeable and, when so interchanged, Ghall meet the requirements specified in subparagraph IV, above . 3.5 Finish. The entire unit, including outside and all accessible inside surfaces, shall be finished wi

All surfaces to be enameled shall
43、 be thoroughly cleaned and chemically degreased. 3.5.2 Primer. After degreasing, a primer coat shall be applied. The primer shall be zinc-chromate conforming to TL-P- 1757. The primer coat shall form a grounding bond and base for the finishing enamel. All surfaces, after degreasing, may be given a c
44、hemical treatment conforming to MIL-C-5541 in lieu of the zinc-chromate primer specified herein. 3.5.3 Enamel. The primer coat shall be followed by one coat of lustreless olive drab enamel conforming to TT-E-527. Each coat shall be sprayed on and baked in high-temperature oven in accordance with the
45、 paint manufacturers recommendations. The resultant finish shall be hard, smooth, and highly resistant to abrasion, chipping, and cracking. lustreless olive drab conforming to color 34087 of FED-STD-595 (see 6.2). 3.5.3.1 Color. The color of the final finish shall be 3.5.4 Touchup coat. If assembly
46、of body, cover, and component parts, after painting, as specified in 3.5.3, results in scratching and chipping of paint, the entire exterior of the body and cover shall receive a mist of lustreless olive drab enamel conforming to TT-E-527. After application of mist coat, chest shall be allowed to ai
47、r-dry in accordance with paint manufacturers recommendations. (see 3.1.7) shall be applied at the junction of the gasket retainer and the inner walls of chest element Nos. 6 and 7 as shown on the drawing. of the chest element through the openings in slots for the drawbolts when tested as specified i
48、n 4.4.2. 3.6 Sealinq. After finishing, a continuous fillet of sealer The sealer shall prevent water leaking out 3.7 Identification markinq. All components shall be permanently and legibly marked with black, lustreless enamel (see 3.1.6), in letters one-half inch high, with the name of the manufactur
49、er or registered trademark. Refer to Table III for marking instructions. 3.8 Preproduction samples of chests. Before production is bequn, the contractor shall submit to the procuring activity, for - approval two (2) preproduction samples.
