Samples, when furnished, are solely for guidance and information to the contractor (see 6.3). Variations from this specification may appear in t

The basic cloth for the Type I, cap- shall be a polyester/wool serge conforming to ML-C-823. The cloth shall be dyed to match Blue Shade 3362. The standard sample piece number is 80353.
22、 3.3.1.2 Basic cloth, twill, polyester/cotton. The basic cloth for the Type II cap shall be a polyester/cotton twill cloth conforming to MIL-C-29127. The cloth shall be dyed to match Blue Shade 3362. The standard sample piece number is -78349. 3.3.1.3 Cloth, linins. The cloth forlining the Type I ca
23、p shall be a rayon twill cloth conforming to Class 1 of MIL-C-368. As an alternate, the lining material may be a polyester twill conforming to MIL-C-44121. The cloth shall be dyed to approximate the shade of the cap. 3.3.2 Sweatband. * 3.3.2.1 Sweatband, artificial leather. The sweatband for the Typ
24、e I, class 1 caps shall be made from artificial leather , conforming to MIL-S-43993 dyed black to finish not less than 7/8 inch in width. 3.3.2.2 Sweatband, terrycloth. The sweatband for the Type I, class 2 caps shall be made from three layers of material. The outer layer shall be made from a black
25、1-3/4 inch wide 75/25 cotton/polyester knitted terrycloth weighing a minimum of 10.0 oz/sq yd. The middle layer shall be a 0.090 inch thick, 1-1/4 inch wide charcoal grey klicker foam. The inner layer shall be a black 1-1/4 inch wide spunbonded nonwoven. The finished sweatband shall have good colorf
26、astness to perspiration and dry cleaning and shall be 1-1/4 (+/- 1/16) inches wide, 3.3.2.3 Sweatband, cloth. The thread for seaming and stitching the caps shall be cotton-covered or polyester-covered thread conforming to 2 ply, ticket No. 50 or 70 of A-A-50199. As an alternate, the thread for seaming a
28、nd stitching the caps shall be cotton thread conforming to Type III, Ticket Nos. A, and B, 3-ply of A-A-52094. The thread for Type I and II caps shall be dyed to match shade Navy Blue AT, Cable No. 66060, in accordance with the Department of Defense Standard Shades for Sewing Threads, except that th
29、e thread used for the stitching the sweatband of the Type I cap shall approximate the shade of the sweatband. 3.3.4.1 Colorfastness. The dyed thread shall show fastness to light, laundering, wet-dry cleaning, and perspiration equal to or better than the standard sample when tested as specified in A-
30、A-52094 or A-A-50199, As a limit of acceptability, or when a standard sample is not available, the dyed thread shall show a minimum of “good“ fastness to light, laundering, wet-dry cleaning, and perspiration, when tested as specified in A-A-52094 or A-A-50199. 3.3.5 Labels. Each cap shall have a com
31、bination identification, size, and personal label and a separate instruction label in accordance with 3.3.5.1 and 3.3.5.2. 3.3.5.1 Combination label. Each cap shall have an identification, size and personal label conforming to Type VI, classes 4 and 10, of DDD-L-20, except that the inscription shall
32、 be as shown below. The size of the label shall be not more than 1-1/2 inches in height and 2-1/2 inches in length. The height of the lettering except for the applicable size shall be 1/16 to 1/8 inch. The size lettering shall be not less than 1/4 inch. The label shall show fastness to drycleaning o

Each cap shall have an instruction label conforming to Type VI, Class 3 of DDD-L-20. The size of the label shall be not more than 1-1/2 inches in height and 2-1/
35、2 inches in length. The size of the lettering shall be 1/16 to 1/8 . inch. The label shall show fastness to drycleaning only when Type 1 caps are applicable and to laundering only when Type II caps are applicable. The cap shall be a garrison style, having a three piece crown and a one piece curtain t
37、urned up on the outside of the cap with the tapered ends crossing at the front. The caps shall be lined or unlined and shall have an artificial leather, terrycloth or basic cloth sweatband, as specified. 3.4.1 Fiqures. Figures 1 and 2 are furnished for information purposes only. When inconsistencies
38、 exist between the written specification and the figures, the written specification shall govern. 3.5 Patterns. Standard patterns to be used to cut the working patterns will be furnished by the Government (see 6.3). The working patterns shall be identical to the Government patterns. Neither the Gove
39、rnment patterns nor the working patterns shall be altered in any way, except that additional notches for use during construction are permitted on the working patterns, Also, minor modifications are .permitted where necessary when using automatic equipment. These modifications shall not alter the dim
40、ensional, serviceability, or appearance requirements cited in the specification. 42、ng 2 (Type 1 only) 3.6 Construction, 3.6.1 Stitches, seams, and stitchinqs. Stitch, seams, and stitching types, asspecified in Table II shall conform to the requirements of FED-STD-751. Whenever two or more methods for seams or stitchings are given for the same operation, any one of them may be used
43、. Seam allowances shall be maintained with seams sewn so that no raw edges, runoffs, twists, pleats, puckers, or open seams result. All seams shall start and finish evenly. Thread tension shall be maintained so that there is no tight or loose stitching. Where stitch type 401 is used, the looper (und
44、erthread) shall be on the inside of the cap. Ends of all seams produced by stitch type 401 shall be caught in other seams or stitchings. The width of the safety stitch shall be 3/8 inch and the guides and knives on the saety stitch machine shall be set to trim only the ravelled ends of the fabric. 3
45、.6.2 Stitches per inch. The minimum and maximum number of stitches per inch shall be as specified in Table II. 3.6.3 Thread breaks and ends of seams. Ends of all seams and stitchings, when not caught in other seams or stitchings, shall be backtacked not less than 3/8 inch. The ends of a continuous l
46、ine of stitching shall be overlapped not less than 1/2 inch. For Type I only, the ends of the label stitching shall be overlapped not less than 3 stitches. Thread breaks (all stitch types) shall be secured by stitching back of break not less than 1/2 inch. Skipped stitches or thread breaks of 401 st
47、itching shall be repaired by using 301 stitch type. These modifications shall not alter the appearance, serviceability, or dimensional requirements cited in the specification. 3.7.1 Shade-and size markinq. The component parts shall be marked or ticketed to insure a uniform shade and size throughout the cap. Any method may be used except: 1. Meta
