REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When Specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article 3.2 Materials a
20、nd components. inspection (see 4.2 and 6.2). 3.2.1 Cloth. 3.2.1.1 Cloth, Duck, Cotton Camouflage Green 483. Cloth for the. class 1 tarpaulins shall be type I, No, 6, hard texture duck of CCC-(2-419, finished to conform to type I, class 1 of CCC-C-428. As an alternate, the cloth for class 1 tarpaulin
21、s shall be type 2,4 or 5, Class 2 or 3 of MIL-PW-20696. The color of the cloth shall be camouflage green 483 conforming to color chip 34094 of FED-STD-595. 3.2.1.2 Cloth. Duck, Cottdn Deck Gray Navy shade 3 104. Cloth for the class 2 tarpaulins shall be type I, No. 6, hard texture duck of CCC-C-419,
22、 finished to conform to type I, class 1 of CCC-C-428. As an alternate, the cloth for class 2 tarpaulins shall be type 2,3 or 5, Class 2 or 3 of MIL-PRF-20696. The color of the cloth shad be deck gray navy shade 3 104. 3.2.1.3 Cloth. Duck, Cotton unbleached. Cloth for the class 3 tarpaulins shall be
23、type I, No. 10, hard texture duck of CCC-C-419, except for weight which shall be 12.5 oz/yd2 minimum and 14.35 odyd2 maximum. Air permeability requirements shall not be applicable. The unbleached cloth shall be finished to conform to class 1 of CCC-C-428, except that the flexibility requirements sha
24、ll not apply. 3.2.1.4 Cloth, Duck, Cotton. Cloth for the class 4 tarpaulins shall be type I, No. 6, hard texture duck of CCC-C-419, finshed to conform to type I, class 1 of CCC-C-428. 25、063 alternate, the cloth for class 4 tarpaulins shall be type 2,4 or 5, Class 2 or 3 of MIL-PRF-20696. The color of the cloth shall be Desert Tan 459. 3.2.2. Webbing, cotton. Webbing shall conform to type III, class 4, 1 inch width of MIL- W-530. The color shall be camouflage green 483 conforming to
26、 color chip 34094 of FED-STD- 595 for class 1 tarpaulins, deck gray Navy shade 3 104 for class 2 tarpaulins and dyed shade 459 Desert Tan for class 4 tarpaulins. When type I, class 3 tarpaulins are required, webbing shall conform to type III, class 1 of MIL-W-530. 3.2.3 Thread, polyester. Thread sha
27、ll conform to type I, class 1, subclass B of V-T-285. Thread size shall be as follows: a. For all stitching except zig-zag stitching and stitching indicated by “2” on drawings size FF for needle and bobbin. b. For zig-zag stitching, size F for needle and bobbin. c. For stitching indicated by “Z” on
28、drawing size FF for needle and size F for looper. 3.2.3.1 Color and treatment. Thread for the class 2 and 3 tarpaulins shall be natural color. The color of the thread for the class 1 tarpaulins shall be camouflage green 483 conforming to color chip 34094 of FED-STD-595. Thread for the class 4 tarpau
29、lins shall be dyed Desert Tan 459. The dyed thread shall show colorfastness to weathering equal to or better than the standard sample (see 6.3). When no standard shade sample is available, the dyed thread shall show good colorfastness to weathering. 3.2.4 Twine, cotton. Twine shall be 5-ply of A-A-1
30、45 1. 3.2.5 Rope, manila., Rope shall conform to type M, class 2 of T-R-605, 1/1/8 inch circumference, mildew resistant treated in accordance with T-T-616. 3.2.6 Grommet, metallic. Grommets shail conform to type III, class 3, size Nos. O, 1, 3,4 and 5 of MIL-G-16491. 3.3 Construction. Construction s
31、hall conform to drawing 5-10-9 and as specified herein. 3.3.1 Stitching, machine. 3.3.1.1 Types. AU stitch types, except bartacking, shall conform to ASTM-D-6 193 as fo Il0 ws : a. Thread breaks in stitching shall be overstitched not less than 1 inch at each break on stitch type 301, not less

34、with stitch type 301. 3.3.1.3 Stitching ends. The ends of 301 stitching shall be overstitched not less than 1 inch except where ends are turned under in a hem or held down by other stitching. Where 301 stitching is performed automaticdy.on stitch patterns such as box, box with cross-stitch, “W stitc
35、hing or straight line tacking, not less than three tying, overlapping , or back stitches shall be used to secure the ends of stitching. The ends of type 304 stitching shall be firmly secured by backstitching or overstitching or by increasing the number of stitches per inch at the ends for a minimum
36、of Yi inch. 3.3.1.4 Skitmed stitches. Two or more consecutively skipped stitches occurring in type 301 or 304 stitching shall be overstitched not less than 1 inch. Any skipped stitches in type 401 stitching shall be overstitched not less than 1 % inches. Skipped stitches in 401 stitching may be over
37、stitched with type 301 stitching. prior to or during the sewing operation is prohibited. 3.3.1.5 Thread lubricant. The addition of any lubricant to the polyester sewing thread 3.3.1.6 Stitchinn margins. All stitching margins shall be 1/8 _+ 1/16 inch. 3.3.2 Setting of grommets, (tvue II tarpaulins).
38、 Holes punched to receive grommets shall be smaller than the outside diameter of the grommet barrel so that the barrel must be forced through the hole. Grommets shall be securely clinched without cutting the materials. Roll of the clinched grommet shall not contah more than three scores (splits). 3.
39、3.3 Tie roDes, (me II tarpaulins). The tie ropes shall be constructed of the material specified in 3.2.5. Eye splices shall have three tucks and the ends of all strands shall be clipped to a length of not less than 1 inch nor more than 1 Yi inches. The size of the eye shall be as specified on the dr
40、awing and shall be the measurement of the inside of the loop when stretched taut. 3.3.4 Wicking of sewing thread (CUP test). There shall be no dripping of water through the panel lap seam stitching when the tarpaulin is tested as specified in 4.4.5. Seepage or leakage of water at a few points caused
41、 by hydrostatic pressure through needle holes or between plies of a lap seam shali not be scored as a failure. The seam leakage test is intended to insure that nonwicking thread has been utilized and that no lubrication has been added to the polyester thread prior to or during the sewing operation.
42、3.3.5 ReDaks. All necessary repairs shall be effected in accordance with Department of the Army Field Manual FM 10-16, except that hand-sewn patches or cemented patches will ncit be acceptable. Repairs required as a result of failure of the cup test and when authorized by the contracting officer sha
43、ll be performed with a suitable adhesive (see 6.5). 3.4 Marking. All markings and labels shall conform to Type IV, class 8 of DDD-L-20. 3.4.1 SDecial marking. The letters “US” shal conform to type IV, class 9 in the size characters and locations shown on the drawings. Class 9 markings shall be clear
44、ly legible after subjection to accelerated weathering. 3.4.2 Workmanship. Cloth components shall be clean and fiee of holes, cuts, tears, or cloth defects such as multiple floats, broken or missing yarns, or areas untreated with compound. Webbing shall not have fiayed or scalloped edges and rope com

47、ed. 3.5 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials. Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent possible provided that the material meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance requirements, and promotes economically advanta
48、geous life cycle costs. 4. VERIFICATION 4.1 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as follows: a. b. Conformance inspection (see 4.3). First article inspection (see 4.2). 4.2 First article inspection When a first article is required (see 6.2) it sh
49、all be examined for the defects listed in 4.4.3 and tested as specified in 4.5.1. The presence of any defect or failure of any test shall be cause for rejection of the first article. 4.3 Conformance inspection. Sampling for inspection shall be as specified in the contract or purchase order. 4.4.1 Component and material inspection.
