SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This document covers the requirements

2、 for a service cap made of a coated knitted material. 1.2 Classification. The cap should be in the following classes and sizes (see 6.2). 1.2.1 Classes. When specified, a sample shall be subjected to the first article inspection in accordance with 4.2 and 6.3. 3.2 Materials. 3.2.1 Basic material.

22、 The basic material shall be vinyl coated cloth (artificial leather), untreated, white, in accordance with Class 7 of A-A-59517, but with the following exceptions: (a) The widths of the base and coated cloths are not required. (b) The commercial designation of the base cloth shall be 3.70 ounces per

23、 square yard. (c) The weight of the coated cloth shall be 15.0 ounces per square yard (minimum). (d) The coating weight shall be 12.0 ounces per square yard (minimum). 3.2.1.1 Grain. The grain shall be a simulated twill weave embossing. 3.2.2 Front piece supporter. The material for supporting the fr

24、ont piece shall be a nylon mesh type, white, knitted on a single needle bar Raschel provided with ground and inlay guide bars. The mesh cloth shall be single face with a knitted chain effect on the back and shall contain laid-in threads every other course. The pattern (design) shall be as shown in t

25、he standard sample. The finished cloth shall meet the physical requirements when tested as specified in 4.3.2. Weight, oz./ sq. yd. 26、own protector. The material for the crown protector, personal label pocket, and binding shall be 0.0040 + 0.0004 inch thick flexible film in accordance with ASTM-D-1593. The personal label pocket shall be heat or electronically sealed to the crown protector and the strength of the seal shall meet th

27、e bondability requirement of ASTM-D-1593. 3.2.4 Inner body band. The material for the inner body band shall be of high density (linear) white polyethylene plastic in accordance with ASTM-D-4976. Thermal stress cracking resistance, low-temperature brittleness, and dielectric constant and dissipation

28、factor shall not apply. The bands shall be extruded or stripped, slit or cut, 2 + 1/16 inches wide and 0.030 + 0.002 inch thick and have a stiffness (scale reading) between 15 and 31 inclusive. The artificial leather for the sweatband shall be 1-1/4 + 1/8 inches wide, and dyed a brown shade, and shall be in accordance with A-A-59517. 3.2.6 Front stay. The front stay shall be made of the following components and shall meet all

30、 the requirements when tested as specified in 4.3.2. 3.2.6.1 Twin wire tape. The twin wire tape shall be a commercial type, measuring 1 + 1/8 inches wide. The steel wire shall be hard rolled, cold finished carbon steel, galvanized, flat wire and shall be 0.016 + 0.001 inch thick by 0.90 + 0.004 inch

31、 wide. 3.2.6.2 Plastic. The plastic reinforcement shall be 0.020 + 0.002 inch thick, natural color, linear polyethylene or polypropylene. 3.2.6.3 Stay cover and sweatband. The material for the stay cover and sweatband reinforcement piece shall be a 5-harness warp sateen cloth, natural or bleached, w

32、eighing 7.4 + 0.8 ounces per square yard. The reinforcement piece may be print or sheeting cloth. 3.2.7 Visor. The visor material shall be made of four layers: top ply, plumper paper, inner core and bottom ply, laminated together with a suitable adhesive. The polished side of the top ply shall be to

33、wards the top of the visor and the coated side of the bottom ply shall be towards the bottom of the visor. The plumper paper shall be positioned between the top of ply and the inner core. Testing shall be as specified in 4.3.2. 3.2.7.1 Top ply. The top ply shall be a vinyl film 0.020 inch thick conf

34、orming to ASTM-D-1593. The film shall be black, and one side shall be pressed polished to produce a smooth shiny pattern leather surface. 3.2.7.2 Plumper paper. The plumper paper shall be a high alpha cellulose wood pulp paper which has been wet-web saturated with 10 to 15 percent by weighed chlorop

35、rene latex. The saturated paper shall have a bone dry weight of 0.62 + 0.062 pounds per square yard and a thickness of 0.022 + 0.003 inch. Testing shall be as specified in 4.3.2. 3.2.7.3 Inner core. The inner core shall be made of fiberboard and shall be free of surface lumps, indentations, ripples,

36、 ridges, and cracks and shall conform to the following physical requirements when tested as specified in 4.3.2. Basic weight, lb./1000 350.0 Sq. ft. 37、ed without license from IHS-,-,-MIL-DTL-43415D 73.2.7.4 Bottom ply. The bottom ply shall be a pyroxylin-coated cloth. 3.2.7.4.1 Base cloth. The base cloth shall be cloth, cotton, sheeting conforming to Type VII, Class 1 of CCC-C-432, except that the cloth shall be desized and scoured and shall conta

38、in not more than 5.0 percent starch and protein material excluding chloroform-soluble and water-soluble material and the requirements for breaking strength, seam efficiency, and shrinkage shall not apply. 3.2.7.4.2 Coating compound. The coating compound shall be 100 percent virgin cellulose nitrate

39、that has been pigmented and plasticized to meet the requirements specified herein. 3.2.7.4.3 Coated cloth. The coating shall be applied on the face side of the base cloth only, and there shall be no striking through of the coating to the back of the cloth. The coated cloth shall meet the requirement

The color shall be Hatters green and shall match the standard sample (See 6.3). under artificial daylight having a color temperature of 7500 Kelvin (K) and shall be a good approximation to the standard sample under incandescent lamplight at 2800 K. 3.2.7.5 Fabrication. The visor shall be cut in st

42、rict accordance with the pattern furnished. The outside edge shall be bound with the plastic film specified in 3.2.8, stitched 1/32 +1/32, -0 inch from folded edge of binding on top of visor with a 4-ply cotton thread as specified in 3.2.16 with 6 to 8 stitches per inch, using type stitch 301, seam

43、type BSb-1, of ASTM-D-6193. The binding shall finish 3/16 to 1/4 inch in width on top and bottom of visor with polished side showing. The visor shall be molded into a curved shape as shown by the standard sample. 3.2.8 Plastic film. The plastic film for the band, visor binding, band binding and the

44、sweatband welt shall be 0.010 inch thick and conform to ASTM-D-1593. The band and visor and band binding shall be black and the sweatband welt shall be brown. 3.2.9 Chin strap. The chin strap material shall be made of two layers (see 4.3.2); top ply and bottom ply of the following materials, laminat

The top ply shall be a vinyl film conforming to the requirements of 3.2.7.1. 3.2.9.2 Bottom ply. The bottom ply shall be a plumper

46、paper conforming to the requirements of 3.2.7.2. In addition, the plumper paper shall be colored black with a colorfast dye and shall not bleed or transfer (see 4.3.2). 3.2.9.3 Rivet, split. The rivet for attaching one of the loops to the strap shall be a strip rivet, approximately 3/16 inch long le

47、gs and 1/8 to 3/16 inch diameter, black enameled hand (see 4.3.2). 3.2.9.4 Construction. The chin strap shall conform to the design and dimensions as shown in Figure 3. The polished side of the vinyl film shall be towards the top of the chin strap. The top strap shall be riveted to the top of loop a

48、nd the button strap shall be stapled to bottom fold of loop when joining ends of loop (see 4.3.2). 3.2.10 Elastic ornamental braid (Class 1 only). The braid shall be a two-color, rayon-elastic, reversible braid conforming to the following requirements and when tested as specified in 4.3.2. Character
