This specification covers a semi-rigid plastic insert with attached cover for use as a liner for NSN 6545-00-180-6239 CASE, MEDICAL INSTRUMENT and SUPPLY SET, Nylon, Non-Rigid, No. 8 and is to contain and protect first aid supplies. 2. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Material. The insert shall be fabricated from an impact and low
8、temperature resistant propylene copolymer conforming to type IV , grade B of L-P-394. 3.2 Color. The plastic material shall be an olive drab color approxi- mating 34087 of Federal Standard No. 595. * 3.3 Design and construction. The insert shall be molded in accordance with Defense Personnel Support
9、 Center Drawing No. 24153. The finished in- sert shall show no evidence of cracking when-tested as specified (see 4.4.1). 3.4 Finish. The insert shall have a lusterless satin finish on all sur- faces. permissible. Vapor honing of the mold to attain the specified finish is 3.5 Flexing of hinge and la
10、tch. The hinge and latch shall not crack nor break when tested as specified (see 4.4.2). 3.6 Identification marking. The front exterior surface of the bottom section and the interior of the insert cover shall be permanently and legibly marked by hot stamping or other intaglio process at the location
11、s indicated on the drawing. The letters and.numerals shall be colored black by means of ink or paint. The ink or paint shall not mar adjacent surfaces. 3.7 Workmanship. Workmanship shall be first class throughout. Inserts shall be well made and free from defects which detract from their appearance o

Unless otherwise specified in the contract, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all in- spection requirements as specified herein. in the contract, the contractor may use his own or any other fa
14、cilities sui tab1 e for the performance of the inspection requi rements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. 4.1.1 Records. Records of exa
15、minations and tests performed by or for the contractor shall be maintained by the contractor and made available to the Government, upon the Governments request, at any time, or from time to time, during the performance of the contract and for a period of three years after delivery of the supplies to

Inspection, as used in this specification, is de- fined as both examination (such as visual or auditory investigation with- out the use of special laboratory appliances or procedures) and testing (det
17、ermination by technical means of physical and chemical properties) of the item. 4.1.3 Certificates of quality, Certificates of quality, supplied by the manufacturer of the plastic molding material, may be furnished in lieu of actual performance of such testing by the contractor, provided lot identit
18、y has been maintained and can be demonstrated to the Government. The certificate shall include the name of the contractor, the contract number, the name of the manufacturer or supplier, the NSN, the item identification, the name of the component/material, the lot number, the lot size, the sample siz
19、e, the date of testing, the test method, individual test results, and the specification requirements. 4.2 Sampling. * 4.2.1 For examination. A one (1) pound weight shall be cushioned in the insert bottom and the insert cover secured by a single layer of two inch tape over the entire top-bottom joint. as specified below, and immediately dropped once, on a bottom corner, from a height of 60 inches onto a concrete floor. The inser
27、t shall be conditioned * 4.4.1.1 Drop test at 155OF. The insert shall be conditioned for 3 hours at 155O - + 20F. * 4.4.1.2 Drop test at minus 20OF. The insert shall be conditioned for 3 hours at minus 200 + 2OF. - * 4.4.2 Flexing of hinge and latch. The insert shall be conditioned for 3 hours at mi
28、nus 20“ + 2OF. first the latch and then the hinge shall be flexed, continuously by hand, for 25 flexes. The angle of flex shall be approximately 1350. The rate of flexing shall not exceed 1 flex per second. The above procedure shall be repeated using a conditioning temperature of 1550 - + 20F. in li
29、eu of minus 20OF. At the end of the conditioning period, 4.5 Packaging inspection. The inspection of the packaging, packing and marking for shipment and storage shall be in accordance with quality assurance provisions of the applicable container specification and the marking requi rements of MIL-STD
30、-129. 5. PACKAGING 5.1 Packaging. Packaging shall be level A or C, as specified (see 6.3). 5.1.1 Unit of issue. Each insert constitutes a unit of issue. 5.1.2 Level A. 5.1.2.1 Unit packaging. Each unit shall be clean and wrapped in kraft paper or inserted into a clear, snug fitting 2 mil plastic bag
31、. Closure of the bag or wrap shall be secured with tape or by other suitable means. 5.1.2.2 Intermediate package. Twelve unit packages shall be packaged in a box conforming to PPP-B-636, class domestic. Closure shall be as specified in the box specification. 5.1.3 Level C. Each insert shall be clean
32、 and packaged in a manner that will afford adequate protection against physical damage during ship- ment from the supply source to the first receiving activity. 5.2 Packing.
