、EIA STANDARD RECOMMENDED PRACTICE FOR PREPARATION OF BASING OR TERMINAL DIAGRAMS RSw206.C (Revision of RS-206-B) JUNE 1980 Engineerng Department ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION NOTICE EIA Engineering Standards are designed to serve the public interest through eliminating misunderstandings between

、manufacturers and purchasers, f aci- litating interchangeability and improvement of products, and assisting the purchaser in selecting and obtaining with minimum delay the proper product for his particular need. Existence of such standards shall not in any respect preclude any member or non-member o

、f EIA from manufacturing or selling products not conforming to such standards, nor shall the existence of such standards preclude their voluntary use by those other than EIA members, whether the standard is to be used either domestically or internationally. Recommended standards are adopted by IA ,w

PURPOSE AND SCOPE It is the purpose of this St

、andard to establish the basic rules, which shall be used as a guide in the preparation of basing and terminal diagrams for electron tubes and associated sealed devices. It is not intended to be applied to schematic or wiring diagrams although the depiction of the internal connections of the devices

、may be applicable to such usage if desired. The rules herein promulgated have been specifically planned to cover low-power high- vacuum, gas and cathode ray tubes, klystrons, and photo-tubes. These rules do not cover other microwave, high-power vacuum, gas, storage, or x-ray tubes, as terminal infor

、mation for those devices ordinarily is contained in the outline drawing. 2. GENERAL Basing or terminal diagrams shall indicate the essential electrical connections for electron tubes and associated sealed devices. The basing or terminal diagram shall consist of a tube graphic symbol, terminal or bas

、e-pin symbols and base-pin numbers, and a diagram designation. These symbols shall be used to indicate the functional structure of a tube rather than its physical structure. No lettering shall be a portion of the diagram other than the diagram designation, the terminal or base-pin symbols, and requi

、site notes as herein defined. 3. GRAPHIC SYMBOLS Graphic symbols as standardized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in the latest issue of their standard ANSI/IEEE Std. 315-1975 (Y32.2) “Graphic Symbols for Electrical arid Eletronic Diagrams,“ shall be used in the preparation of TEP

、AC (formerly JEDEC) basing and terminal diagrams. In the absence of suitable symbols as standardized by ANSI, symbols standardized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), or symbols established by TEPAC (formerly JEDEC) may be used. . - EIA 20b-C 80 3234600 0062945 5 H RS-206

NOTE: The letter symbol iiS1i identifies. an external electronic shield connected to a. distinctive terminal which may or may nat require grounding according to circuit requirements. Where an external con- ductive coating serves as

、 one side of a capacitor (as in cathode ray tubes) and is not designed to function as an electrostatic shield, the letter IrSt should not appear. DIAGRAM DESIGNATION A diagram designation may be assigned by the EIA Engineering Department when a type designation is assigned to the device. Previsouly assigned EIA basing designations not in conflict with

、this system shall be retained as TEPAC designation numbers. Any obsolete or voided previously assigned EIA basing designation shall not be reassigned for TEPAC. Diagrams that differ only in supplemental internal connections (for example, internal shields) to pins already used shall be assigned the s

On the diagram for subminiature types with “in-line“ lead arrangement, the base reference characteristic shall be at the 3 oclock position. The datum line 7.4 An appropriate note shall be used on diagrams when required to identify

、unequivocally the location of a terminal. 7.5 When it, is impractical to show all external-connection symbols on the circle representing the tube envelope, the remaining symbols may be shown on an additional broken-line circle or circles drawn externally concentric with the first circle. Symbols ass

A type having a grid adjacent to the cathode, but internally connected to the cathode to form a portion of it, such as in indicator tubes, shall be shown as having a cathode only. 7.9 0. RULES

、APPLYING TO MULTIELECTRODE TYPES 8.1 A type having two or more electrodes tied internally shall be shown with symools for each electrode, except when the electrodes are adjacent in the tube structure and perform the same function. Thus the diagram for a twin pentode having a common screen grid and c

、onnection for each section, and for a converter tube having the Na 3 and No. 5 grids connected internally, shall show separate symbols for each grid. However, a triode where the control grid is physically in the form of two grid windings shall show only.one grid. Also for cathode ray tubes, limiting

、 apertures shall not be separately depicted, 8.2 The diagram for a tube having more than one heater, shall show only one heater (inverted V) unless the heaters have separate connections. If a tap is made, one heater symbol shall still be shown and the tap shall be shown at the vertex of the heater s

、ymbol regardless of the actual division of voltage across the heater. 8.3 Paragraph 8.2 shall apply also to filaments. In case of a tap, either brought out to a pin connection or internally connected as to a suppressor grid, the tap shall be shown at the vertex of the filament A type having more tha

When cathodes are brought out to separate terminals, the

、 electrodes wiI1 be associated with their respective cathodes. 9. RULES APPLYING TO SUBMINIATURE TYPES 9.1 For subminiature types the terminals shall be indicated by small circles tangent to the envelope symbol regardless of terminal length or relative rigidity. 9.2 For butt.on-base subminiature tub

、es, when the terminals are in circular array, the terminals shall be oriented in accordance with approximate angualr location. 9.3 For subminiature tubes in which the base terminals emerge from the base in essentially a linear arrangement,” the terminals will be graphi- cally depicted within a maxim

、um angle of 150 degrees around the circular envelope symbol. (See Figure 2). An alternative, the envelope may be shown with straight sides and semi-circular ends, with the terminals along the bottom straight side. (See Figure 2A). 10. RULES APPLYING TO PHOTOTUBES AND CAMERA TUBES On phototube and ca

、mera tube diagrams, an arrow or note, or both shall be shown to state the direction of incident radiation (visible light, etc.) into the tube. 11. RULES APPLYING TO GAS-FILLED TUBES A dot to indicate a gas-filled tube may be used where desired without changing the diagram designation. It is not, how

、ever, to be considered a portion of the TEPAC basing or terminal diagram. 12. RULES APPLYING TO ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS Electrical components (such as: resistors, capacitors, inductors, etc.,) that are integral parts of the tube and are important to its functional operation shall be shown in the stand
