30、 4.2 Extentofexamination Thecastingshallbeexaminedsothattheagreedareasaretotallycovered(insofarasthisispossiblefromthe shapeofthecasting)bytheuseofthebestapplicableexaminationtechnique. Forwallthicknessesgreaterthan600mm,agreementshallbemadebetweenthepartiesconcernedonthetest procedureandalsoonthere

31、cordingandacceptancelevels. 4.3 Maximumpermissiblesizeofdiscontinuities 4.3.1General Thepurchasershallspecifytheacceptancelevelaccordingtotherequiredseveritylevelforplanarandvolumetric discontinuitieswithineachzoneandineachspecifiedareaofthecasting. ThewallsectionshallbedividedintozonesasshowninFigu

32、re1.Thesesectionsrelatetothesizesofcastings readyforassembly(finishmachined). 4.3.2 Indicationswithoutmeasurabledimensions Inspecialrimzonesandatweldpreparationends,indicationswithoutmeasurabledimensionsarelimitedtoa maximumnumberofindications. TheseindicationsshallnotexceedthelimitsgiveninTable1. 4

33、3.3 Indicationswithmeasurabledimensions 4.3.3.1 Planardiscontinuities PlanardiscontinuitiesshallnotexceedthelimitsgiveninFigure2. Theareaofindicationwithmeasurablelengthbutwithnonmeasurabledimensioninthroughwalldirectionshallbe calculatedaccordingtotheformulagiveninFigure2. Thesizingofsmallplanardi

34、scontinuities,asgiveninFigure2,becomesmoredifficultwithincreasingbeampath lengthandsoundbeamdiameter.Asaguide,thesesizingsarenormallyappliedtoarimzoneof30mm.Itmakes theuseofprobeswithfocussedbeamssuchastwincrystalprobesnecessary. 4.3.3.2 Volumetricdiscontinuities Volumetricdiscontinuitiesshallnotexc

35、eedthesizesgiveninFigure3forrimzoneandFigure4forcorezone.Indi cationswithmeasurabledimensionsarenotpermissibleinseveritylevel1.Theareaofanindicationwithmeasur ablelengthbutnonmeasurablewidthshallbecalculatedinaccordancewiththeformulagiveninFigures3and4. 4.4Personnel qualification Itisassumedthatultr

36、asonicexaminationisperformedbyqualifiedandcapablepersonnel.Inordertoprovethis qualification,itisrecommendedtocertifypersonnelinaccordancewithEN473. 4.5 Wallsectionzones ThewallsectionshallbedividedintozonesasshowninFigure1.Thesesectionsrelatetothedimensionsofthe castingreadyforassembly(finishmachine

37、d).EN126802:2003(E) 7 4.6 Severitylevels Ifthepurchaserspecifiesdifferentseveritylevelsindifferentareasofthesamecasting,alloftheseareasshallbe clearlyidentifiedonthepurchasersdrawingandshallinclude: allnecessarydimensionsforaccuratelocationofzones; thefullextentofallweldpreparationsandthethicknessof

38、anyspecialrimzone. Severitylevel1isonlyappliedtoweldpreparationsandspecialrimzones. Unlessotherrequirementshavebeenagreedbythetimeofacceptanceoftheorder,forfinishingwelds,there quirementsfortheparentmetalshallapply. 5Examination 5.1Principles TheprinciplesofultrasonicexaminationgiveninEN5831,EN5832a

39、ndEN5835shallapply. 5.2Material Thesuitabilityofmaterialforultrasonicexaminationisassessedbycomparisonwiththeechoheightofareference reflector(usuallythefirstbackwallecho)andthenoisesignal.Thisassessmentshallbecarriedoutonselected castingareaswhicharerepresentativeofthesurfacefinishandofthetotalthick

40、nessrange.Theassessmentareas shallhaveparallelsurfaces. ThereferenceechoheightaccordingtoTable2shallbeatleast6dBabovethenoisesignal. Iftheechoheightofthissmallestdetectableflatbottomedorequivalentsidedrilledholediameterattheendofthe testrangetobeassessedislessthan6dBabovethegrasslevel,thentheultraso

41、nictestabilityisreduced.Inthis case,theflatbottomedorsidedrilledholediameterwhichcanbedetectedwithasignalnoiseratioofatleast6dB shallbenotedinthetestreportandtheadditionalprocedureshallbeagreedbetweenthemanufacturerandthe purchaser. NOTE Forthedefinitionofanadequateflatbottomedholesize,thedistancega
