、l of Materials, or BOM, for Product Engineering Drawings is a required chart used to identify all Sub-Assemblies, and Components, including Gray or Black Box “Purchased in Assembly“ (PIA) parts that are used in an End-Item Assembly. BOMs contain information that is primarily used by downstream custo
、mers such as Materials Engineering for materials listings and recyclability attributes, Pre-Production Management (PPM) for WERS component to assembly structure and Customer Service Division for service part identification and assembly structure. See Figure A-3.1. Figure A3.1 1.2 The stock list for
、Manufacturing Assembly and Detail drawings shall be compiled as outlined in the following instructions. This list shall include all items which are detailed and components selected from commercial catalogs or Ford Motor Company Manufacturing Standards. Included sub-assemblies, where used, shall also
、 be listed. 1.3 The complete stock list shall, where practicable, be shown on sheet #1 of the assembly drawing. See Figure A3.2. 2. DEFINITIONS 2.1 Traceability: Traceability defines the ability to understand change at any level of assembly and be able to trace back to the origins of the change thro
、ugh the release history of a Corporate Record. 2.2 End-Item Assembly is the final level of assembly prior to shipment, and may contain Sub-Assemblies, and Components within it. All End-Item Assemblies are serviceable. 2.3 Sub-Assembly is a level of assembly between the End-Item Assembly and the lowe
、st assembly level Component and may contain additional levels of Sub-Assembly and Components. A Sub-Assembly may or may not be serviceable. 2.4 Component (interchangeable with the word Part): is a part that is the lowest level of an assembly, or a part unto itself that cannot be disassembled any fur
、ther without physical destruction. A Component may or may not be serviceable. A31 Printed copies are uncontrolled.ENGINEERING CAD & DRAFTING STANDARDS Return to TOC 2.5 SERVICEABLE COMPONENTS are those parts that at any level of assembly may eventually be removed and replaced in a vehicle for servic
、e or upgrade and have interface with other mating parts. Serviceable Components at any level of assembly require that a Ford Engineering Part number be assigned, see FAP03-145. 2.6 PURCHASED IN ASSEMBLY (PIA): PIAs are any level of assembly or a Component that is delivered within an assembly but is
、not managed by Ford unless a Ford part number is assigned or it is Build to Print. 2.7 BUILD-TO-PRINT parts are those which are designed by Ford Motor Company and manufactured by Ford or a supplier. Ford will direct the design and material(s) selection for the entire build-to-print component. 2.8 GR
、AY BOX parts are those which are jointly designed by the supplier and Ford Motor Company. Ford may direct the design and/or material selection for portions of a gray box component. 2.9 BLACK BOX parts are defined for purposes of this standard as those which are furnished by a supplier without modifi
、cation to Ford Motor Company (“off-the-shelf“ supplied designs). Ford must design all mating interfaces to accommodate a black box component, and accepts design and material selection as is. 2.10 INTERFACES are defined as the mating surfaces of components that are physically fastened and make contac
、t to each other at any level of assembly, including Plant assembly. (Include service). 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 PRODUCT DRAWINGS: 3.1.1 For traceability and correctness, the BOM shall be maintained with up-to-date Ford and Supplier part numbers. The component-to-assembly structure shall match the Enginee
、ring Release System. 3.1.1.1 Components within Ford Sub-Assemblies that are already released on a separate drawing are not required to be broken down again on the End-Item Assembly BOM. 3.1.2 BOM ROWS of the Product Engineering Drawing BOM shall list all levels of assembly, including all Sub-Assembl
、ies and Components that comprise the End-item Assembly, regardless of Build-to-Print, Gray Box, Black Box, or PIA status. 3.1.3 BOM COLUMNS of the Product Engineering Drawing BOM are identified as follows and may be shown in any order, See Figure A-3.1. Other columns may be added provided they do no

、overnment regulated parts, etc. per FAP03-145. 3.1.3.4.1 In the FORD PART NUMBER column, the Ford part number for all sub-assemblies & components determined to have a Ford Motor Company engineering part number shall have that part number identified in its entirety. See FAP03-145 and Figure A-3.1.1.
、3.1.3.4.1.1 CAD File Names or IDs are not permitted in the Ford Part Number column. 3.1.3.4.1.2 Some Components to an End-Item Assembly or Sub-Assembly may not be identified with a Ford Motor Company part number. In this case, inserting PIA in the FORD PART NUMBER column is preferred. 3.1.3.4.1.3 Fo
、rd sub-assemblies that are released on a separate Ford drawing are not required to be broken down in the Ford End-Item Assembly drawing BOM. This break down is required for each separate sub-assembly level on its own Ford drawing, see Figure A-3.1.1. 3.1.3.5 Part Name 3.1.3.5.1 When a Ford Motor Com
、pany engineering part number is identified in the FORD PART NUMBER column of the BOM, the official Ford Motor Company part name shall be shown in the PART NAME column, see Figure A-3.1.1. The Quantity columns can then be utilized as a matrix for component-to-assembly
、 structure. The BOM shall list all of the components used in all assemblies with either a numeric quantity or an “X“ placed in the appropriate tabulation column for each component.
