3、Code of Federal Regulations3. GENERAL: Conveyor system design must comply with the latest editionof the referenced standards. In those instances where Ford standardsexceed the referenced standards, Ford standards will apply. It is theresponsibility of the supplier to determine that all standards are
4、 met orrequest a waiver of requirements if necessary. Any waiver must beapproved by the requisitioning activity.4. LOCATION:Guards are required when the lowest point of any part on an overheadconveyor exceeds 7 feet (2.1 m) from the floor.Unless otherwise specified, guards shall have a minimum headr
5、oomclearance of 10 feet (3m) from the floor over aisles and 6 foot 8 inches(2m) for areas other than aisles.5. GENERAL CONSTRUCTION:5.1 Conveyor guard design requires approval of the requisitioningactivitys Safety Engineer prior to fabrication.5.2 Guards must have a minimum clearance of 6 inch (152
6、mm) betweenoutside stock edges and sides and bottom of the guard.5.3 Guards sides must be sufficiently high to retain falling stockwithin the guard as specified by the requisitioning activity. Atminimum, half of the vertical height of the part being conveyedmust be enclosed by the guard.5.4 Guards s

8、 not impair the ability of the guard tosupport stock falling into the guard. Sides must be helixed tobottoms (welded when expanded steel mesh is used). Individual “U“shaped sections must be helixed to each other.5.6 Stock retainers shall be installed at 4 foot (1.2 m) intervals toretain stock droppi
9、ng from the conveyor on the inclines anddeclines for the full width of the guards. Retainers must be ofsufficient height to prevent stock from rolling down the incline ordecline.5.7 Hangers shall be a minimum of 1-1/2 X 1-1/2 X 3/16 inch(38.1 X 38.1 X 5 mm) and must have sufficient strength to suppo
10、rtthe guard and guard load in a rigid manner. The maximum spacebetween any two hangers must not exceed 8 feet (2.4 m).5.8 Hangers shall be fastened to header and bottom tie angles with1/2 inch (12.7 mm) diameter grade 5 bolts, two at the top and one atthe bottom per hanger, minimum.5.9 The conveyor
11、guard shall be braced at 20 foot (6.1 m) centers,minimum to prevent sway, sag or tilt.5.10 Guards should be cleaned and painted before installation asspecified by the requisitioning activity.5.11 Straight runs of stock guards must be track supported (wherepossible) and of the removable panel type.5.
12、12 Where stock guards are designed with walkway, handrail shall beprovided.6. DRIP PANS:6.1 Drip pans must be installed within wire fabric over working arearequiring protection from dripping as specified by therequisitioning activity.6.2 Drip pan installation requires approval of the fire protection
13、authorities to ensure that adequate sprinkler coverage if requiredis provided for areas under drip pans.7. 15、udinallywith conveyor.Three #2 gauge longitudinal reinforcement wires located on 2 inch(50.8 mm) centers at the top and on the opposite side of longitudi-nal wires are to be welded to the vertical fabric wires7.2 BOTTOM PANELS: Shall be constructed of 2 x 4 inch (50.8 x 101.6 mm)#2 gauge welded stee
16、l wire fabric.Wires spaced on 2 inch (50.8 mm) centers shall run laterally toconveyor.Panels from 4 foot 4 inch (1.3 m) to 6 foot (1.8 m) wide shall bereinforced with additional #2 gauge wires on 20 inch (508 mm)centers.Panels over 6 foot 4 inch (1.9 m) wide shall be reinforced withadditional #2 gau
17、ge wires on 10 inch (254 mm) centers.Reinforcing wires shall be welded to 4 inch (101.6 mm) spacedwires on side opposite and parallel to 2 inch (50.8 mm) spacedwires.7.3 HEADER MEMBERS - Stock guard headers with a maximum length of 6 feet(1.8m) without walkways shall be made of 3 X 2 X 1/4 inch angl
18、es(76.2 X 50.8 X 6.4 mm) minimum. Stock guards with walkways shallhave headers made of 4 X 3 X 1/4 inch angles (101.6 X 76.2 X 6.4mm) minimum.7.5 BOTTOM SUPPORT MEMBERS - Stock guard bottom support with a maximumlength of 6 feet ( 1.8m) without walkway shall be made of 2 X 2 X1/4 inch angles (50.8 X
19、 50.8 X 6.4 mm) minimum. Stock guards withwalkways shall have bottom support made of 2-1/2 X 2-1/2 X 1/4 inchangles (63.5 X63.5 X 6.4mm) minimum.8. RAISED EXPANDED STEEL MESH TYPE (Optional for heavy items):8.1 SIDE PANELS: Shall be constructed of 1-1/2 inch (38 mm) mesh #13gauge expanded steel. Wir
