SCOPE The material defined by these specifications is a composite consisting of a non-woven fabric, needled between two layers of reclaimed fiber padding creating a dual density pad. 2. APPLICATION These specifications were releas
3、ed originally for material used as carpet underlayment in the 1979 Mustang/Capri. 3. REQUIREMENTS Material specification requirements are to be used for initial qualification of materials. 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Co
4、mpanys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS In addition to the requirements listed herein, carpet assemblies employing padding materials described herein, must also meet all engineering requirements of the ESB-M15P10-A specification. 3.3 CONST
5、RUCTION The composite consists of ESB-M9H97-A, non-woven nylon, firmly needled between two layers of a mixture of synthetic and natural fibers to form one dual density pad. 3.4 THICKNESS (FLTM BN 023-02) Total thickness of the composite pad shall be as specified on the engineering drawing. 3.5 WEIGH
6、T OR DENSITY (ASTM C 167, except use thickness test from para. 3.4) The weight or density of each layer of pad and the total composite weight shall be as specified on the engineering drawing. Material that is considered to have a disagreeable odor by the quality control or product engineering office will be subject to rejection. 3.9 MILDEW RESISTANCE The material shall exhibit no visual evidence of mildew growth and shall have no mildew odor
9、 after 7 days exposure in a humidity cabinet controlled to 100% relative humidity at 38 C. 3.10 ACOUSTICAL PROPERTIES (initial approval only) The minimum acceptable acoustical performance for any specified source, must be determined by the affected vehicle development group. 3.11 PLY STRENGTH, min 0
10、.5 lb (2.2 N) (ASTM D 413, Machine Method, Strip A, 2 in wide) Prior to testing, separate the samples at the interface between the non-woven fabric and the thick side of the pad. Place the non-woven fabric and thinner side of the pad in one jaw, and the thicker pad in the other jaw. 3.12 ESB-M17H145
11、-A FLAMMABILITY, max 4 in (101 mm)/min (FLTM BN 024-02, without the lot sampling plan) In addition, the test specimen shall not exhibit any flashing or sudden flaming on either surface in excess of the above maximum value. 3.13 ESB-M17H145-B FLAMMABILITY 3.13.1 Flammability In order to comply with F
12、ederal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 302, the materials, portions of components, and composites shall not burn, or transmit a flame across its surface, at a rate of more than 4 in (101 mm) per minute. To demonstrate compliance, the sample size and method of testing shall be in accordance with FL
13、TM BN 024-02. 14、 not been treated, modified or reformulated and exceed a maximum burn rate of 3.0 (76 mm) per minute as specified by the Flammability Lot Sampling Plan of FLTM BN 024-02, must be evaluated for permanency of the materials flame retardant properties per ESB-M25P3-A according to the accelerated environ
15、mental aging requirements applicable to the basic material category of this particular specification. Any material, portions of components, and composites defined by this specification that have been treated, modified or reformulated to conform to Flammability Lot Sampling Plan of FLTM BN 024-02, re
16、gardless of maximum burn rate, must be evaluated for both permanency of materials flame retardant properties and changes in mechanical, chemical and physical properties per ESB-M25P3-A applicable to the basic materials category of this particular specification. 3.13.3 Flammability Test Program Mater
17、ials, portions of components, and composites governed by this specification must also comply with the requirements of ES-D3AB-11014-AA. The remaining requirements apply to all padding materials governed by this specification. 3.14 IN-PLANT PROCESSING FLAMMABILITY (FLTM BN 024-01) The material shall not support combustion after being exposed to a standard flame for 30 seconds at a distance of 1 in (25 mm) from the tip of the needle.
