、, Inc. STEEL WIRE, SPRING - GENERAL PURPOSE FASTENERS ESB-M1A26-A 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a round or flat spring steel wire. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for manufacturing fasteners for general use. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS
、 FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 COMPOSITION The material shall be either annealed, hard drawn, or oil tempered steel wire according to the design of the part and the equi
、pment necessary to form the part, and shall conform in composition to SAE 1060 or 1065 steel. 3.3 ANNEALED WIRE When made from annealed steel wire, the parts shall be given their spring temper by heating uniformly to a minimum temperature of 790C in a neutral atmosphere, quenching in oil, and temper
、ing immediately at a minimum temperature of 340C to the desired hardness. 3.4 HARD DRAWN AND OIL TEMPERED WIRE When made from either hard drawn steel wire or oil tempered steel wire, the parts shall be given a low temperature temper after forming at approximately 315C for 15 minutes minimum to relie

GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. Thin parts and parts with difficult configurations made from annealed material are more susceptible to distortion when quenched and tempered after forming. The use of hard drawn or oil tempered material is recommended for these parts.
