2、. ADHESIVE, VINYL ACETATE - HOT MELT - PRESSURE SENSITIVE TYPE ESB-M2G183-A NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a 100% solids, thermoplastic pressure sensitive type, hot melt adhesive of the vinyl acetate class. 2. APPLICATION This specification was r
3、eleased originally for material used to effect a temporary bond for shipping purposes prior to final assembly, between materials such as, polyethylene foam, closed cell sponge neoprene, molded sponge rubber and polyurethane gaskets to stamped sheet metal, zinc die cast, polypropylene, A.B.S., acryli
4、c or fiberglass reinforced polyester resin lamp bodies. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 COLOR Amber 3.2 VISCOSITY AT OPERATING TE
5、MPERATURE 4,000 9,000 cP (mPa.s) (Brookfield, #5 Spindle, 10 r.p.m.) The viscosity of the material is recorded at 163 C, 177 C, 191 C. 3.3 SOLIDS, min 95% (ASTM D 2046, except heat at 177 C for 4 h, save sample for next test) 3.4 ASH, max 0.5% (Based on weight of solids) Test Method Place the crucib
6、le containing the solids residue in a cool muffle furnace. 8、hall be used for control purposes to establish reproducible shear adhesion values. The use of metal and rigid plastics is necessary due to the low tensile strength of the foam materials and the high shear adhesion values obtainable with this hot melt adhesive. Test Method Apply sufficient material a
9、t the proper application temperature 177 C to a section of the above substrates to provide a bond area of 1 sq in (6.5 cm2) by approximately 0.030 in (0.76 mm) thickness. With hand pressure, apply 1 sq in (6.5 cm2) of a 1 x 3 in (25 x 75 mm) section of the above substrates to the adhesive surface an
10、d allow the composite to cool to room temperature (30 minutes minimum). Pull the bonded assembly in a tensile machine with a jaw separation rate of 1 in (25 mm)/min. (See Fig I). 3.7 ODOR The adhesive shall be free from objectionable or irritating odors, both as received and at application temperatu
11、res. 3.8 QUALITY The adhesive shall be a smooth homogeneous mixture, free from foreign materials and properties detrimental to normal production operations. 3.9 TOXICITY The material shall be non-toxic and shall not cause skin rash or irritation (dermatitis) to exposed handlers in normal production
12、operations. 3.10 OPERATING TEMPERATURE 163 - 191 C The hot melt adhesive shall function at the specified operating temperature range for acceptable production application. 13、t 177 C, max 12,000 cP (mPa.s) (Brookfield #5 Spindle, 10 r.p.m. with no skin or gel formation) Test Method Place a 1/2 pt (0.3 1) sample of the material in an open metal can and place in mechanical convection oven for 96 h at 177 +/- 3 C, and examine for a skin or gel formation. Agitate material at
14、 177 C just prior to conducting viscosity of the aged sample with the Brookfield #5 Spindle at 10 r.p.m. 3.12 STORAGE LIFE, when stored at 0 to 49 C Indefinite 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specific
15、ation. 5.1 WEIGHT PER VOLUME 7.8 - 8.8 lb/gal (ASTM D 816) (0.93 - 1.05 kg/l) The weight tolerance for any one supplier shall be +/- 0.2 lb/gal (0.024 kg/l) based on the recorded weight for his original approved production sample. 5.2 DEGRADATION POINT 204 C This adhesive may be used at 191 - 204 C
16、for short periods of time (100 h max). The material must not be used under any circumstances when the temperature exceeds 204 C, since decomposition occurs, with permanent degradation of physical and adhesive properties. 5.3 PRESSURE SENSITIVE TACK When hot melt adhesive has cooled to 23 +/- 2 C, the material shall remain tacky for 90 days, with the surface protected from dirt or dust contamination.
