、UALITY, EPOXY COATING - RUSTLESS STEEL SCREWS BLACK ESB-M2P106-A NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE This specification defines the performance requirements for a black, thermosetting, powdered epoxy coating, electrostatically applied over rustless steel screws. 2. APPLICATION This specification
、was released originally for a black, corrosion and abrasion resistant finish for rustless steel screws used to attach black or partially black exterior trim parts such as parking lamps, tail lamps and side markers. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers
、 and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 COLOR Black, unless otherwise specified on engineering drawing. 3.2 CLEANING PRIOR TO COATING (FLTM AQ 004-01) Screws shall be sufficiently clean and passive so that no copper plates
、 out. 3.3 EPOXY COATING APPLICATION The powdered epoxy coating shall be electrostatically applied and cured at a baking schedule sufficient to meet all requirements of this specification. Solvent type epoxy coatings are not permitted. 3.4 FILM CURE No softening or transfer of color shall occur when
、the coating is rubbed with a white cloth saturated with acetone or methyl ethyl ketone. 3.5 ABRASION AND CORROSION RESISTANCE The following tests shall be performed sequentially on the same sample parts: 3.5.1 Abrasion Resistance Epoxy coated screws shall withstand shaking in a vibratory hopper at f
、ull power setting for 1.5 h without bright metal showing on heads as a result of chipping or abrasion wear. 8、ra 3.5.1, the screws shall be driven into hardwood at installation torques. No chipping of the coating shall be visible. 3.5.3 Corrosion Resistance (ASTM B 117) The installed screws (per para 3.5.2) shall be exposed to salt spray for 96 h. After rinsing in warm water and allowing to dry, there shall
、 be no evidence of blisters, peeling or loss of adhesion of the coating, or red rust on the screw heads. 3.6 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS For initial approval only or prior to any changes from initially approved epoxy, the following tests will be conducted on screws installed per para 3.5. 3.6.1 Water Im
、mersion, min 240 h (FLTM BI 104-01) For painted bright trim, the parts shall not exhibit dulling, blisters, or loss of coating adhesion. 3.6.2 Weatherometer-Water Immersion, min 1500 h (FLTM BO 101-01) No degradation of coating (light chalking that can be polished off with a soft clean cloth is perm
、issible). The screws shall then withstand 24 h water immersion per para 3.6.1. 5.
