、EALER, ACRYLONITRILE BUTADIENE STYRENE (ABS) ESB-M6J125-A SURFACES NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a primer sealer with good adhesion to ABS plastic surfaces, which will not permit transmission of lacquer solvents and thus prevent crazing of the A
、BS surface. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material used as a primer sealer on ABS exterior parts where acrylic service repair lacquer is used as the color coat. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers mu
、st conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 PHYSICAL PROPERTIES 3.1.1 Non-Volatile Solids (FLTM BI 102-01) To be established by the vendor on the initial approved production batch. Tolerance shall be +/- 0.5%. 3.1.2 Viscosity (FLTM BI 111-02) Shall
、 be established by the vendor on the initial approved production batch. Tolerance shall be +/- 5 s. 3.1.3 Stability (FLTM BI 102-03) The material shall not liver or jell upon standing and must be free from settling which is not dispersed by normal agitation. The viscosity of the material shall not i

、EPARATION OF TEST PANELS ABS panels of any convenient size may be used. Solvent wipe to remove soil and mold release compound. Reduce ESB-M6J125-A to 15 - 20 s #4 Ford Cup with the reducing thinner recommended by the supplier. Spray 0.0005 - 0.00075 in (13 - 19 m) (dry film thickness) and force dry
、45 min at 66 C. Spray ESB-M4J54 Black applying 4 coats, with a 1 min flash between coats, to obtain a dry film thickness of 0.0012 - 0.0018 in (30 - 45 m). Force dry 45 min at 66 C. Age all panels 96 h before testing. 3.3 APPEARANCE 3.3.1 Color Gray (No darker than master color panel) 3.3.2 Holdout
、There shall be no evidence of dulling or strike in when lacquer color coat is applied over the primer sealer. 3.3.3 General The material, when properly applied, shall dry to a smooth, homogeneous film, free from mottling, pitting or excessive orange peel. 3.4 FILM PROPERTIES 3.4.1 Adhesion (FLTM BI
、106-01) No chipping or flaking of primer sealer to substrate. 3.4.2 Cold Impact (Primer Sealer, Lacquer System) A painted ABS plastic panel shall exhibit no less than 50% of the impact resistance of an identical unpainted panel at -29 C. Test Method: Use impact apparatus from FLTM BI 108-01, except
、that a flat base plate with no hole is used. Maintain test apparatus and panels at -29 C for 4 h min. Report impact in lb (J) necessary to fracture both painted and control panels. 3.5 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES 3.5.1 Water Resistance, min 96 h Test primer sealer alone and primer sealer, lacquer system.
、Test Method: Immerse the panels in distilled or deionized water maintained at 32 +/- 1 C per FLTM BI 104-01. Remove parts from the water and immediately scribe an X through the material to the substrate. Dry the scribed area with a paper towel cloth or air pressure and immediately apply, with firm t
、humb pressure, a min of 2 sq in (13 cm2) of ESF-M3G48 tape. Remove the tape by pulling on end at a 90 angle at a moderate speed. The following conditions shall be basis for rejection: ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION ESB-M6J125-A Copyright 2012, Ford Global Technologies, LLC Page 3 of 3 Removal of
、 paint beyond 1/16 in (1.6 mm) from any scribe line. Any evidence of blistering after tape removal. 3.5.2 Thermal Shock Resistance (Primer Sealer, Lacquer System) (FLTM BI 107-05) The material shall exhibit no blistering or loss of adhesion when subjected to the following cycle test. 4 h water immer
、sion. 4 h min exposure at -29 C. Direct steam blast on scribed X at a 45 angle 2 - 3 in (50 - 75 mm) from panel for 15 s min. 3.5.3 Weathering Resistance Panels prepared in accordance with paragraph 3.3 shall show a min degree of fading, chalking or dulling. No increase of brittleness nor loss of ad
、hesion is permitted and panels shall be completely free from evidence of cracking, checking, blistering or peeling when exposed as follows: Florida Exposure (Miami area) 12 months min at 45 facing south. Accelerated Weathering (FLTM BO 101-01) 400 h in Atlas XW Weatherometer. 3.5.4 Water Resistance
、After Weathering After panels have been subjected to either Florida or Weatherometer exposure as specified in paragraph 3.5.3, they shall be tested for 24 h water resistance as described in paragraph 3.5.1. Peeling of the paint film in excess of 1/8 in (3 mm) from the scribe mark shall be cause for rejection. Examine for blistering. Blistering in rinse pattern obviously due to panel preparation shall not be cause for rejection provided adhesion is satisfactory. General blistering is considered failure.
