2、 BRAKE FLUID, SUPER DOT 4 TYPE ESD-M6C57-A NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a non-petroleum D.O.T.4 type, 180 C minimum W.E.R.B.P. quality, hydraulic brake fluid containing polyalkylene glycol ethers, borate esters and additives. 2. APPLICATION Thi
3、s material is primarily intended for use as a hydraulic fluid in passenger and light commercial vehicle brake systems. 3. REQUIREMENTS Material specification requirements are to be used for initial qualification of materials. 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and
4、part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 QUALIFICATION PROCEDURE 3.2.1 Qualification The Materials Engineering activity reserves the right to subject materials submitted against this specification, to any additional investigatio
5、n they may consider necessary and use the data derived for approval qualification. 3.2.2 Verification The affected Materials Engineering activity reserves the right to conduct verification testing. If the test results do not support the originally submitted data, the supplier must re-test the produc
6、t in coordination with the affected Materials Engineering activity. This re-test must be conducted and certified by a mutually agreed upon test facility. 3.2.3 Documentation Supplier must furnish to the affected Materials Engineering activity a completed and certified copy of the attached Supplement

A corrosion test shall be carried out according to SAE J 1703 procedure, but including a zinc test strip additional to the six regular SAE strips. The zinc to be placed at the end of the assembly next to the copper strip. The zinc used
11、shall be SAE 925 alloy. Test pieces can be obtained from Erich Herrmann and Co., 7501 Grotzingen ueber Karlsruhe 2, West Germany. The maximum permissible weight loss for zinc test strip in the test shall be 0.20 mg/cm2 of surface. The test strips outside the contact area shall not be pitted or rough

The strips are carefully placed in the test jars (approximately 84 mm OD x 74 mm high) containing 75 ml of the test fluid, (ie fluid under test +5% water +50 ppm chloride derived from NaCl)
22、and the test jars closed with a mild steel lid (without insert pad). The test jars are placed in an oven at 70 2 C for 168 hours (7 days). At the end of the test period each strip is removed, washed in 95% ethanol to remove the graphite, wiped clean and examined for sings of etching or corrosion pit
