、 FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is an air dry, water based, engine enamel with low volatile organic compound (V.0.C.) content and non-photochemically reactive hydrocarbon solvents for conformance to air pollution control requirements. 2. APPLICATION This specifica

、tion was released originally for material to paint the engine and engine accessories where water, humidity, salt spray, gasoline, oil, ethylene glycol and moderate heat resistance are required. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 COMPOSITION 3.1.1 Solvent The reducing solvent shall consist of a minimum of 80 % wate

、r by volume, with the balance hydrocarbon solvents. The latter shall not be photochemically reactive, as defined below: A photochemically reactive solvent is any solvent with an aggregate of more than 20 % of its total volume composed of the chemical compounds classified below or which exceeds any o

、f the following individual percentage composition limitations, referred to the total volume of solvent: A combination of hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, esters or ketones having an olefinic or cycloolefinic type of unsaturation - 5 % A combination of aromatic compounds with eight or more carbon a

、toms to the molecule except ethylbenzene - 8 % A combination of ethylbenzene, ketones having branched hydrocarbon structures, trichloroethylene or toluene - 20 % Whenever any organic solvent or any constituent of an organic solvent may be classified from its chemical structure into more than one of

、the above groups of organic compounds, it shall be considered as a member of the most reactive chemical group, that is, that group having the least allowable percent of the total volume of solvents.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION ESE-M62JI7-C Page 2 of 6 Suppliers shall furnish certification of c

The material shall not jell or liver upon standing. 3.2.3 Settling, min 8 (ASTM D 1309, Modified) The test procedure is modified using a 125 mL glass container and rated with a 25 g spatula. Record level of settling from bottom of container. 3.3 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS 3.3.1 Typ

、e I Prepare clean steel panels in accordance with FLTM BI 3-2, Method “E“. Panels shall be prepared by air drying at 23 +/- 2 C for 72 h with a dry film thickness of 0.75 - 1.0 mils (19 - 25 m). 3.3.2 Type II Prepare clean cast iron panels in accordance with FLTM BI 3-7. Apply paint per FLTM BI 3-2,
