2、N-M1P50-A NOT TO BE MADE FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE This specification defines an electrolytic coating of zinc that contains evidence of nickel additions. Part supplied to this specification must have a minimum coating thickness of 5 micrometers and be capable of passing a 48 h salt spray test. 2 APPLI

3、CATION This finish is applied to steel strip used in the manufacture of spring guards that protect hydraulic houses used on industrial backhoes and loaders. 3. REQUIREMENTS Material specification requirements are to be used for initial qualification of materials. 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUC

4、TION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 SALT SPRAY RESISTANCE, min 48 h (ASTM B 117) Parts shall pass salt spray requirements if the tested coatings have six red spots or less for any 930 c

5、m2 area that is visible to the unaided eye. A part is allowed one red rust spot on the significant surface for any size area, however, the total area of the number of parts tested if over 155 cm2 in area, shall not have more than one red rust spot per 155 cm2 of area. Also, a part showing a red spot

6、 larger than 1.6 mm in diameter on a significant surface shall be evaluated as a failure. 3.3 THICKNESS The thickness of plating shall be determined by a suitable acid dropping test, by magnetic methods such as “Magnegage“, by electronic deplating (Kocour Test) or by metallographic methods. In case

7、of dispute between a supplier and the Ford Motor Company, the umpire method shall be the met. 3.4 VISUAL EXAMINATION Plated parts are subject to surface inspection for such imperfections as excessively rough plate, incompletely covered areas, etc. The testing of the quality of plate by salt spray and/or determination of coating thickness will be done on pieces passing this inspection.
