SCOPE The material defined by the A1 specification consists of cellulose fibers bonded with nitrile butadiene rubber and totally encapsulated with chloroprene rubber. The material defined by the A2 specification consists of cellulose fibe
4、r and mineral fillers bonded with nitrile butadiene rubber and encapsulated with a layer of styrene butadiene rubber and nitrile butadiene rubber. The encapsulation is added to both base materials to aid in sealing flange microfinish and to prevent migration of automatic transmission fluid through t
5、he gasket. 2. APPLICATION These specifications were released originally for gasketing materials used on external transmission joints to seal automatic transmission fluid. 3. REQUIREMENTS Material specification requirements are to be used for initial qualification of materials. All tests shall be con
6、ducted in accordance with ASTM F 104 Type 3 material unless otherwise specified. All testing shall be done on totally encapsulated test samples. All testing to be done at 23 +/- 2 C and 55 +/-5% relative humidity. Material approval will be based on actual ASTM test samples. Results on finished gaske

A 12.7 mm steel bolt is inserted through the hole and a nut placed on it. Tighten the bolt to 79 N-m. Heat the assembly at 121 +/- 3 C

Precondition samples for 24 h at 50% R.H. at 23 +/- 2 C. After preconditioning measure the length o
17、f each test specimen. Place 6 specimens of each direction in a tray of de-ionized water to a depth of 1.2 cm for a 22 h period. Remove specimens from water, immediately lightly blot excess water from the surface and immediately remeasure the length. Place the 6 remaining specimens of each direction
18、in a recirculating hot air oven at 100 +/- 2 C for 5 h. Remove from oven and place immediately in a desiccator containing anhydrous calcium chloride. Cool to room temperature, remove and immediately remeasure the length. 3.9 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSIS IR spectra and thermogra
19、ms established for initial approval shall constitute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at the designated material laboratory. All samples shall produce IR spectra and thermograms that correspond to the reference standard when tested under the same conditions. 3.10 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBI
20、LITY All materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent in all characteristics to the material upon which approval was originally granted. Prior to making any changes to the material originally approved under this specification, whether or not such changes affect the materials ability t
21、o meet the specification requirements, the Supplier shall notify the affected Purchasing, and Materials Engineering activities (with reasons) of the proposed changes. Upon notification of the Company, further instructions will be provided. Note: Suppliers should be prepared to provide test data and
22、samples demonstrating compliance to this specification, if requested. Substance restrictions imposed by regulations or Company direction applies to the materials addressed by this document. The restrictions are identified in Restricted Substance Management Standard WSS-M99P9999-A1. 4. APPROVAL OF MA
23、TERIALS Materials defined by this specification for direct supply to the Company must have prior approval. Certain materials subcontracted by part suppliers may also require prior approval. These include materials critical to the Companys business for regulatory, safety, environmental or compatibili
24、ty requirements or contractual agreements. Suppliers desiring approval of their materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from Purchasing, Design or Materials Engineering activity. Upon request, the Supplier shall submit a completed copy of their laboratory test reports, signed by a qualified and authorized representative of the test facility, demonstrating full compliance with all the requirements of this specification.
