、RIMER - AIR DRY - POLYPROPYLENE INTERIOR ESR-M6J130-A NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE This specification establishes the requirements for an air dry primer for polypropylene. This specification is not intended to limit the primer to one which may be used on all types of polypropylene in all a
、pplications, but defines the requirements of a primer which may be restricted to specific substrates and specific applications. 2. APPLICATION This material was released originally for service priming of selected interior polypropylene plastic trim parts immediately prior to color coating. 3. REQUIR
、EMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 GENERAL 3.1.1 The primer must meet the following general requirements: 3.1.1.1 Be in a ready-to-use or rea
、dily mixed form. It must be capable of application with paint equipment normally available in automobile dealerships. 3.1.1.2 Be rapid drying to permit color coating within 30 min air drying at 23 +/- 2 C. 3.1.1.3 Not cause any detrimental effects on the substrate(s) to which it is applied. The orig
、inal physical properties of the substrate must not be significantly altered. 3.1.1.4 Be reasonably safe to apply and must meet all federal, state and local regulations in the packaged form actually supplied. The primer must be formulated to minimize employee health hazards due to toxic or otherwise
、injurious ingredients. Any primer which, in the judgment of the Ford Motor Company Industrial Hygiene Unit, poses needless risk to the user, will not be approved to this specification. Supplier shall furnish all necessary information on types of material required for packaging and on the storage life of the primer in each of the product packages supplied. For any particular size package or container fo
、r the product, the supplier shall furnish information on safe storage practice and recommendations as to maximum and minimum ambient temperatures and direct sun load conditions at which the product may be stored without any adverse effect. If the package is considered unsafe for storage in an automo
、tive vehicle, the package shall be labeled accordingly and the safe storage conditions specified. For all aerosol containers, the supplier shall furnish all pertinent information on pressures and propellants and any precautions involved in storing, handling, and use. 3.1.1.6 Have no objectionable od
、or either during or after application of the primer. Odor shall be judged by the affected Product Engineering Office. 3.1.1.7 Each substrate to which this primer may be applied must be approved by the Product Engineering Office using this specification. 3.1.1.8 Labeling: Provisions of this specifica
、tion are applicable when the primer is used according to label directions. Any precautions involved in the use of the primer must be clearly stated on the product label. 3.1.1.9 Date Coding: Containers and cartons must be marked with a code indicating source and compounding date of the primer. Suppl
、ier must furnish an explanation of this code to the affected Product Engineering Office. Individual container marking may be waived if approved in writing by the affected Product Engineering Office. 3.2 CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES Specific chemical and physical properties for the primer describ
、ed by this specification are not specified herein. However, specific chemical and physical properties (along with production tolerance limits) for the primer actually being supplied to this specification are specified on the “Engineering Quality Control Supplement“. A separate supplement is issued b
、y the affected Product engineering Office to the appropriate Quality Control Office for each approved source primer that is actually being supplied to this specification. The supplement, together with this specification, is used by Quality Control for verification of product conformance to the prime

Spray primer according to vendor supplied directions, completely wetting the panel (film thickness approximately 0.1 mil)
、. Allow primer to flash dry for 1 to 5 min at 23 +/- 2 C. Color coat with approximately 1.5 mils M4J Series Interior Lacquer (ESR-M2P93-A) or equivalent. Air dry panels for 30 min minimum at 23 +/- 2 C. Age all panels for 72 h minimum at 23 +/- 2 C, 50 +/- 5% relative humidity before testing. ENGINE
